Sample interview questions
Describe a finance planning-system transformation you led from evaluation through implementation and adoption.

I would explain the business problem, evaluation criteria, selected platform, target operating model, integration design, implementation phases, governance, training, and measurable improvements in forecast speed, accuracy, and manual effort.

How would you design a consolidated planning process that balances standardized corporate reporting with flexibility for individual finance teams?

I would establish common chart-of-accounts, KPI, scenario, and data-governance standards while using controlled input templates and role-based workflows. Local teams would retain ownership of operational assumptions, and the central model would provide automated consolidation, validations, and auditability.

What controls would you implement to ensure planning-model accuracy and reliable executive reporting?

I would use source-to-target reconciliations, locked master data, approval workflows, change logs, version control, exception reporting, documented model logic, and recurring validation against ERP actuals. Material variances would have named owners and defined resolution timelines.

How have you communicated technical finance-system trade-offs to executives?

I translate choices into decision impact, risk, cost, timing, and scalability rather than focusing on technical details alone. I present concise options with a recommendation, clarify assumptions, and identify what can be delivered now versus what should be sequenced on the roadmap.

How would you prioritize competing requests for planning enhancements during an active forecast cycle?

I would prioritize statutory, leadership, and forecast-critical work first, then assess each request by business value, risk reduction, dependency, effort, and calendar impact. I would publish the prioritization rationale, protect critical-cycle stability, and schedule lower-priority improvements into a transparent roadmap.

About the Role

Hims & Hers is looking to hire a Senior Manager of Planning Systems to join our Strategic Finance organization. Reporting to the VP, FP&A, you will own the architecture behind the company’s consolidated planning and reporting cycles and lead a small team responsible for how inputs from across the FP&A pillars flow into a coherent, system-based corporate view that informs decisions made by senior leadership, the executive team, and the Board.

This is a player-coach role for someone who pairs strong financial and business acumen with deep experience in planning tools and finance transformation. You will stay hands-on in the model and the data while managing and developing a team of analysts, owning the planning systems roadmap, and setting the standard for how planning and reporting scale across the broader FP&A team. We’re looking for someone who thrives in a fast-moving, high-growth environment and gets energy from building durable infrastructure and the people who run it.

You Will

  • Lead, hire, and develop a team of 1–2 analysts to lead finance transformation efforts across finance and accounting, spanning planning systems, consolidation, and executive reporting, setting clear priorities and a high bar for accuracy and timeliness

  • Own the consolidated planning and reporting engine behind the annual operating plan, long-range plan, and monthly/quarterly forecast cycles, covering data intake, consolidation, and on-time delivery of the outputs reviewed by senior leadership, and lead its evolution into a scalable, system-based architecture

  • Serve as the functional and technical owner of the financial planning platform, leading EPM tool evaluation and selection, design, implementation, enhancement, administration, and team enablement

  • Own the planning systems roadmap end-to-end, including prioritization, sequencing against the planning calendar, governance, and change management, and communicate progress and trade-offs to Finance leadership

  • Design data flows and integrations connecting the planning platform to the ERP, data warehouse, and BI stack, partnering with Accounting, Data Engineering, Data Science and Analytics on architecture and data ownership

  • Support executive-facing financial deliverables, including the Weekly Business Review, monthly OpEx review, and quarterly Board and Audit Committee materials, and build dashboards and reporting that surface KPIs and business insights with minimal manual assembly

  • Partner with category, marketing, and ops finance leads to standardize how their inputs are gathered, pressure-tested, and consolidated into a single corporate view

  • Establish and enforce best practices across systems controls, data governance, and planning process documentation

You Have

  • B.S. in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or equivalent experience

  • 8+ years of progressive experience spanning strategic finance / FP&A and finance systems or finance transformation roles, including 2+ years managing or formally developing analysts

  • Strong financial and business acumen, including command of P&L mechanics, budgeting, forecasting, and the consolidation mechanics behind a company-wide planning cycle

  • Hands-on experience implementing, administering, or owning an EPM / planning platform (Anaplan, Pigment, Adaptive, Planful, or similar), including model design and integrations

  • Demonstrated success leading a finance transformation initiative end-to-end, standing up or materially scaling planning systems and automated reporting, not just contributing components

  • Ability to manipulate large datasets and translate them into clear, structured, decision-ready outputs

  • Strong project management instincts, with the ability to run multiple workstreams simultaneously and delegate effectively

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to bridge technical and non-technical audiences, from system administrators to the executive team

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with a bias toward action in ambiguous, fast-changing environments

  • Track record of leveraging AI and automation to improve finance workflows

Nice to Have

  • Proficiency with SQL and experience with BI tools (Looker); NetSuite or similar ERP integration experience

  • Experience at a high-growth public company (recent IPO) or late-stage startup (Series C+) that has scaled through significant revenue and organizational growth

  • Exposure to a public company’s external reporting cycle (Board, Audit Committee, earnings/guidance)

Our Benefits (there are more but here are some highlights):

  • Competitive salary & equity compensation for full-time roles

  • Unlimited PTO, company holidays, and quarterly mental health days

  • Comprehensive health benefits including medical, dental & vision, and parental leave

  • Employee Stock Purchase Program (ESPP)

  • 401k benefits with employer matching contribution

  • Offsite team retreats
