Sample interview questions
I would begin by aligning with Sales and Revenue Operations on the key drivers, such as pipeline coverage, conversion rates, average deal size, sales capacity, and timing. I would build a driver-based model with documented assumptions, compare it with historical performance, and create base, upside, and downside scenarios. I would refresh the forecast regularly and explain material changes clearly to stakeholders.
I would first quantify the variance and break it into meaningful drivers, such as volume, pricing, headcount, timing, or mix. I would validate the underlying data with the relevant business owners, distinguish one-time effects from structural changes, and assess the forecast implication. I would then present a concise explanation, recommended action, and any required forecast or budget updates.
I treat AI output as a starting point rather than a final answer. I validate source data, independently check calculations and logic, test outputs against known results, and document assumptions and exceptions. For material decisions, I use reconciliations and stakeholder review before sharing recommendations.
I would start with the business question and the decision required, then lead with the key takeaway instead of the methodology. I would use a simple visual or a small set of metrics to show the main drivers, explain implications in operational terms, and make a specific recommendation. Supporting detail would be available for follow-up questions.
I would monitor bookings or ARR growth, pipeline coverage, conversion rates, average deal size, sales capacity and productivity, customer acquisition cost, retention where relevant, and operating expense against plan. I would connect these operating measures to revenue, margin, and headcount forecasts. The most useful metrics depend on the team’s growth stage and the decision being evaluated.
