Sample interview questions
Describe a website experiment you designed that produced a meaningful result. What was your hypothesis, and what did you learn?

I would explain the audience and funnel stage, state a measurable hypothesis, and describe the variant, control, success metric, and test constraints. I would then share the result and how I either scaled the winning pattern or used the loss to shape the next experiment.

How do you balance a distinctive brand experience with conversion-rate goals?

I begin with the user objective and brand principles rather than copying generic conversion patterns. I use prototypes and controlled tests to validate ideas, retaining high-quality creative work when it supports clarity and trust while changing elements that data shows are creating friction.

How have you contributed to a design system while working on fast-moving campaign or growth work?

I use existing components first to keep production efficient and consistent. When a new pattern proves useful across experiments, I document its behavior, variants, accessibility needs, and responsive rules before proposing it as a reusable system component.

What is your process for designing an interactive product demo or scroll-driven web story?

I map the visitor's key questions and create a concise narrative from problem to product value to action. I prototype the interaction early, work closely with developers on feasibility and performance, and validate the final experience across devices, accessibility requirements, and conversion metrics.

How do you work with growth marketers, developers, and SEO specialists when several tests are running at once?

I align each test around a written hypothesis, target audience, primary metric, scope, and delivery deadline. I communicate trade-offs early, provide build-ready specifications, and review released pages with partners so that insights are captured and applied to subsequent work.

Opportunity details

About this role.

Who are we?

At UpGuard, we are replacing manual security bottlenecks with AI-driven precision. Fresh off a US$75M Series C, we are scaling our infrastructure to process 100 billion risk signals daily. This isn’t just growth; it’s a total reimagining of how the world manages cyber risk.

We build the Cyber Risk Posture Management (CRPM) platform that security teams actually love. By integrating security ratings, threat intel, and agentic AI, we empower organisations to stay ahead of an ever evolving attack surface.

We aren’t just building another tool; we’re defining a category. We provide the autonomy to ship world-class technology and the resources to do it at a global scale.

Where does this role fit in?

Most designers ship a page and never find out its impact. Here, you’ll find out every week. We’re putting together a growth squad: a small team of growth marketers, developers and one designer, with one job. Work out what turns a visitor into a customer, then do more of it. You’ll be that designer. You’ll pitch ideas, design landing pages, page sections and sign-up flows we test, and see the results on every one. You’ll work inside an established design system and help shape what gets added to it, with AI built into how you prototype and ship. About 80-90% of your time will be on the web. The rest goes to the bigger creative moments that support it, like interactive tools, launch pages and more.

Those bigger moments are where we want to push. We rebuilt our brand in 2025 and we want the best website in cybersecurity. That means interactive product demos, scroll-driven stories and free tools other designers wish they’d made.

What will you do?

  • Design and ship a steady stream of website experiments: landing pages, page variants, UI modules, forms and CTAs, each built to test a clear hypothesis against a clear metric.

  • Bring your own test ideas to the squad. Spot the opportunity in the data, write the hypothesis, and shape the brief alongside our growth marketers, performance marketing, SEO and web developers.

  • Push what our website can do. Design interactive, world-class web experiences (product demos in the browser, scroll-driven stories, free tools, calculators and launch pages) that raise the bar for B2B web design.

  • Turn a complex security product into a story people follow. Use real UI, product vignettes and motion to walk visitors from the problem they have to how UpGuard fixes it.

  • Grow our design system with what you learn. Build every test from the system first, and when a new pattern wins, turn it into a component the whole team can use.

  • Design landing pages for paid campaigns with tight message matches to the ads driving traffic to them.

  • Prototype fast with AI tools, in Figma or in code, so the squad can click through an idea before a developer builds it.

  • Hand off build-ready designs to our web developers and QA what ships for responsiveness, accessibility and page speed.

  • Review the results of every test, wins and losses, and turn what we learn into a playbook of what converts.

What will you bring?

  • 5+ years designing websites and marketing pages, with a portfolio that shows both craft and outcomes: pages you tested and improved, and at least one interactive or high-craft experience you’re proud of.

  • A proven track record working in or alongside growth or performance marketing teams. You can walk us through tests you’ve designed, what won, what lost, and what you changed next.

  • Deep experience designing inside an existing design system in Figma (components, variants, auto layout, variables), and the judgement to know when a new component earns its place.

  • Sharp UI and interaction craft: layout, typography, hierarchy, motion and responsive design that holds up from mobile to wide desktop.

  • Taste you’ll stand behind. You’ll push back when a “best practice” would cheapen the brand, and you’ll let a concept go when the data says it isn’t working.

  • A proactive, autonomous team player who’s comfortable running several tests at once and sets clear expectations with stakeholders.

What will give you an edge?

  • Motion, interaction or 3D skills for set pieces, from micro-interactions to scroll moments, in tools like Rive, Jitter, After Effects or Spline.

  • Experience designing interactive tools, calculators or in-browser digital experiences

  • Data visualisation: turning research and stats into charts and graphics people want to share.

  • You’ve taken a design all the way to a working prototype in Framer, Webflow or with AI tools.

  • Web work that’s been recognised by Awwwards, FWA or similar.

  • Experience in B2B SaaS or cybersecurity.

  • Experience creating high-converting Meta and Google ads.

What’s in it for you?

  • Monthly Lifestyle subsidy: Use this for financial, physical, and mental well-being

  • WFH set-up allowance: To ensure you have the right environment to work in, we will help you get set up within your first 3 months at UpGuard

  • $1500 USD annual Learning & Development allowance: To support your career development, all team members will be able to expense development opportunities against this allowance
