Sample interview questions
How would you create a multi-quarter frontend architecture roadmap for a pharmacy and fulfillment platform?

I would begin with stakeholder interviews, system and dependency mapping, operational metrics, and a technical-debt assessment. I would define target architecture principles around reliability, security, observability, performance, and developer experience, then prioritize initiatives by risk reduction and business impact. Finally, I would turn the roadmap into sequenced, independently deliverable workstreams with measurable outcomes and regular review points.

Describe how you would improve performance and reliability in a large React application used by operational teams.

I would establish baseline user and technical metrics, including Core Web Vitals, error rates, API latency, and task completion times. I would use profiling to identify rendering bottlenecks, optimize data loading and caching, reduce unnecessary bundle weight, and add resilient error boundaries and retry behavior. I would instrument the application with monitoring and alerts so regressions are detected quickly and addressed through a defined incident process.

How do you decide when AI coding tools should be used in a healthcare-related engineering workflow?

I treat AI tools as accelerators rather than sources of authority. They can help with drafting tests, documentation, refactoring options, and repetitive code, but all outputs require human review, secure-data controls, and validation against product and safety requirements. For patient-sensitive workflows, I would define clear usage policies, prohibit exposure of protected data, and ensure critical decisions remain auditable and engineer-owned.

How would you drive adoption of common frontend standards across several engineering teams?

I would first align teams on the problems the standards solve, such as inconsistent accessibility, duplicated components, slow delivery, or reliability issues. I would provide practical reference implementations, shared libraries, documentation, migration paths, and automated linting or CI checks. Adoption works best when teams can contribute to the standards and when the improvements clearly reduce friction in their daily work.

Tell us about your approach to mentoring senior frontend engineers while maintaining delivery velocity.

I use architecture reviews, pair programming, written design feedback, and ownership of progressively larger technical initiatives. I focus on helping engineers explain trade-offs, define success metrics, and communicate decisions clearly across functions. By delegating meaningful ownership while remaining available for escalation, I support growth without becoming a bottleneck.
