Sample interview questions
How would you prioritize a NetSuite optimization roadmap for a rapidly growing company?

I would begin with stakeholder interviews, process mapping, and a review of system pain points, data quality, control risks, and manual effort. I would then rank initiatives by business impact, risk reduction, implementation effort, and dependencies, creating a phased roadmap that balances quick wins with foundational architecture improvements.

Describe your approach to translating a finance requirement into a technical solution.

I clarify the business objective, affected workflows, control requirements, data inputs and outputs, and success metrics. I document the functional specification, identify whether configuration, SuiteScript, an integration, or a process change is appropriate, and validate the proposed solution with finance and technical stakeholders before development.

What controls would you establish to protect data integrity in NetSuite?

I would implement role-based access, segregation of duties, approval workflows, master-data governance, change-management procedures, audit trails, reconciliation routines, and structured testing before deployment. I would also monitor exceptions and periodically review permissions and key configurations.

How have you managed internal and external technical resources on finance systems work?

I set clear scope, acceptance criteria, priorities, timelines, and ownership for each workstream. I maintain regular delivery reviews, ensure technical designs meet finance and control requirements, resolve blockers quickly, and require documentation and knowledge transfer so the internal team can sustain the solution.

How would you improve reporting and decision-making for the Finance organization?

I would define a trusted data model and standardized reporting metrics with Finance leadership, improve source-data quality and integration reliability, and automate recurring reconciliations where possible. I would then deliver role-relevant dashboards and reports that provide timely visibility while preserving consistent definitions and governance.
