Sample interview questions
How would you assess whether a paid lead-generation campaign is performing successfully?

I would begin with the agreed funnel metrics, such as qualified leads, cost per qualified lead, conversion rate, and downstream pipeline contribution. I would compare results with campaign targets and historical benchmarks, then segment performance by channel, audience, creative, and landing page to identify optimisation opportunities.

Describe how you would approach an underperforming Google or LinkedIn Ads campaign.

I would first validate tracking, conversion definitions, budget delivery, and targeting settings. Then I would review search terms or audience segments, creative relevance, landing-page conversion performance, and bidding strategy before prioritising controlled tests rather than changing several variables at once.

What is your process for running an A/B test in paid media?

I would define one clear hypothesis and a primary success metric, such as conversion rate or cost per lead. I would change one meaningful variable, ensure the test has sufficient volume and duration, document the result, and apply the learning only when the evidence is reliable.

How can automation and AI improve paid campaign management?

Automation can reduce manual reporting and routine budget checks, flag material performance changes, and help maintain consistent naming and tracking standards. AI can assist with analysing patterns, generating creative variations, and identifying optimisation ideas, while a marketer should still validate outputs and make strategic decisions.

How would you communicate campaign results to stakeholders with different levels of marketing knowledge?

I would tailor the reporting to the audience, leading with commercial outcomes and key decisions for senior stakeholders while providing channel-level detail for marketing colleagues. I would clearly explain what changed, why it matters, what has been learned, and what action I recommend next.
