Sample interview questions
I would begin with stakeholder interviews, workload and data-flow discovery, and an assessment of security, governance, quality, cost, and operational maturity. I would define target-state architecture and prioritized migration waves, then link each phase to measurable business outcomes, risks, ownership, and a delivery plan.
I start with access patterns, consistency needs, latency requirements, data volume, and user workloads. Transactional systems generally favor normalized models and strong integrity controls, while analytics platforms commonly use dimensional, denormalized, or lakehouse-oriented models optimized for large-scale querying and reporting.
I would establish clear ownership, a catalog and lineage approach, data classifications, access policies, retention rules, and quality service-level objectives. Automated validation tests, monitoring, version-controlled transformations, and documented remediation workflows would make those controls operational rather than purely policy-based.
I would evaluate event volume, ordering and delivery guarantees, acceptable latency, schema evolution, retention, replay needs, downstream consumers, security, and operating cost. The design should include observability, dead-letter handling, idempotent processing, and a clear approach to scaling and failure recovery.
I would identify high-value use cases, define guardrails for sensitive data, access, prompt handling, evaluation, and human review, and select models based on performance and cost. I would also implement monitoring for quality and safety, document approved patterns, and create reusable components that teams can adopt consistently.
