Sample interview questions
Describe a Python service you built or maintained that integrated with an external SaaS API.

I would explain the service architecture, authentication approach, API rate-limit handling, retries, idempotency, observability, and the measurable business outcome. I would also discuss how I tested failures such as API downtime or malformed responses.

How would you design an automated SaaS seat-management system for multiple vendors?

I would define a canonical identity and entitlement model, build vendor-specific adapters behind a common interface, and use event-driven or scheduled reconciliation. I would include approval controls, audit logs, idempotent provisioning actions, least-privilege credentials, and monitoring for failed changes.

What practices do you use to ensure high-quality Python code in a collaborative team?

I use clear interfaces, type hints, focused tests, linting and formatting, meaningful documentation, and small reviewable pull requests. In reviews, I focus on correctness, maintainability, security, operational impact, and sharing context rather than merely enforcing style.

How would you troubleshoot a production data-ingestion pipeline that is producing incomplete records?

I would first quantify the scope and identify where records disappear by tracing metrics and logs through extraction, transformation, and loading stages. I would validate source changes, schemas, pagination, retry behavior, and deduplication logic, then deploy a tested fix with backfill and alerts to prevent recurrence.

How do you work effectively in a remote, distributed engineering organization?

I communicate decisions and progress clearly in written form, document technical context, and make asynchronous work easy for others to review. I proactively surface risks, set explicit ownership and deadlines, and use synchronous meetings selectively for decisions that benefit from real-time collaboration.
