Sample interview questions
How do you convert a complex clinical trial protocol into a complete site budget template?

I review the protocol, Schedule of Activities, manuals, and amendments to identify every site-facing procedure, visit, conditional event, and invoiceable activity. I map these items to visits and payment milestones, validate assumptions against country cost data, and document items requiring negotiation or escalation.

What checks do you perform before releasing a budget template to negotiators?

I reconcile all procedures with the protocol and Schedule of Activities, test formulas, verify per-patient and visit totals, and review conditional and invoiceable costs. I also confirm that start-up, pharmacy, lab, imaging, close-out, archiving, and pass-through fees are addressed and that assumptions are clearly documented.

How would you manage the financial impact of a protocol amendment?

I compare the revised documents against the prior approved version to identify added, removed, or changed procedures and visits. I quantify the impact on patient costs, site payments, and contract exhibits, update the master budget, and communicate clear change summaries to the study team and negotiators.

Describe your approach to negotiating a site Clinical Trial Agreement and its budget exhibit.

I prepare by understanding the protocol requirements, approved budget parameters, local benchmarks, and the sponsor's escalation rules. During negotiation, I focus on accurate payment terms, defensible site costs, clear responsibilities, and timely resolution of issues while maintaining a constructive relationship with the site.

How do you maintain accuracy and accountability while handling multiple global studies?

I use standardized templates, version control, documented assumptions, review checklists, and prioritized work plans based on study timelines and risk. I provide concise status updates, escalate blockers early, and maintain auditable records of decisions and negotiation changes.
