What you have

  • 5+ years of professional experience in frontend software engineering, having led product initiatives end-to-end in recent years, preferably with user-facing AI
  • TypeScript/JavaScript: You have an exceptional grasp of the language. You keep up with the latest spec and look for every opportunity to use new features. You’re familiar with at least one modern framework and client side rendering technique. We use TypeScript, React, and Next.js to create our user interfaces, although specific knowledge of those is not a prerequisite
  • UI & Product Instincts: You have feelings about how a web page should look and feel, care about the nuances of how users will work with the product you’re building, and aim to build inclusive and accessible experiences. We don’t expect you to be a visual designer, but we’re looking for someone who can build on the work of our experienced design team and express opinions about how best to leverage AI
  • Architecture and Performance optimization: You are comfortable going deeper into the stack to untangle caching inefficiencies, and troubleshoot across a wide array of distributed systems that make up a dynamic web application. You know how to use monitors and testing to know if changes improved or degraded the experience. You know how to architect for performance and maintainability
  • Adaptability: You have comfort working full stack in Python when needed to get things done. You have some experience with design tools like Figma or Sketch. If you’ve never worked with any of these in your life but want to fearlessly dive in, please still apply

Our stack

Sample interview questions
How would you evaluate whether a new AI-powered feature improves the fan experience?

I would define the user problem and success metrics before launch, then instrument the experience to measure adoption, task completion, latency, quality signals, and downstream conversion. I would use controlled experiments where practical, combine quantitative results with user feedback, and iterate on the feature based on both product value and operational reliability.

Describe your approach to diagnosing a performance regression in a React or Next.js application.

I would first confirm the regression with real-user monitoring and reproducible traces, then isolate whether it originates in rendering, network requests, caching, JavaScript bundle size, or backend dependencies. I would profile the affected path, make a targeted change, add regression coverage, and validate the outcome through production metrics such as Core Web Vitals, error rates, and page latency.

How would you design a resilient frontend experience that depends on an AI service?

I would establish clear loading, timeout, retry, and fallback behavior so the core ticketing workflow remains useful if the AI dependency is slow or unavailable. I would also use structured API contracts, monitoring, feature flags, and safeguards for low-quality outputs, while ensuring users understand when content is AI-generated.

How do you balance product velocity with maintainable frontend architecture?

I prioritize the smallest reliable solution that meets the user need, while identifying architectural decisions that would create costly future constraints. I document key trade-offs, create reusable patterns where repetition is emerging, and reserve larger refactors for moments when measurable product or operational benefits justify the investment.

What is your approach to mentoring engineers while remaining hands-on?

I mentor through collaborative design reviews, pairing, actionable code-review feedback, and sharing context behind technical decisions. I set clear ownership boundaries, help engineers grow toward independent decision-making, and stay hands-on with high-impact technical work without becoming a bottleneck.
