While many roles at Coinbase are remote-first, we are not remote-only. In-person participation is required throughout the year. Team and company-wide offsites are held multiple times annually to foster collaboration, connection, and alignment. Attendance is expected and fully supported.
The mission of the Platform Product Group engineers is to build a trusted, scalable and compliant platform to operate with speed, efficiency and quality. Our teams build and maintain the platforms critical to the existence of Coinbase. There are many teams that make up this group which include Product Foundations (i.e. Identity, Payment, Risk, Proofing & Regulatory, Finhub), Machine Learning, Customer Experience, and Infrastructure).
The Payment team is diligently crafting innovative payment solutions aimed at empowering both individual consumers and large-scale institutions within the cryptocurrency ecosystem. You will be joining a team developing state-of-the-art payment infrastructures and experiences, along with unique payment products, to facilitate the seamless transition of traditional currency into the crypto landscape, thereby enhancing financial access. Our payment solutions are designed with a focus on simplicity and scalability, aiming to drive widespread adoption of crypto-centric products such as Decentralized Finance (DeFi), Decentralized Applications (DApps), and cryptocurrency exchanges.
What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties):
- Implement the multi-year strategy for Payments engineering with the technical leadership on your team.
- Coach your direct reports to have a positive impact on the organization and chart a fulfilling career path.
- Be a thoughtful technical voice and support your team in making diligent architectural decisions.
- Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers and senior leadership to turn our vision into a tangible roadmap every quarter.
- Work with our talent organization to source and hire amazing engineers who will expand the Coinbase culture and product.
- Add positive energy in every meeting, and make your coworkers feel included in every interaction.
- Contribute to owning and delivering processes to drive engineering quality and meet our engineering SLAs.
What we look for in you (ie. job requirements):
- At least 7 years of experience in software engineering.
- At least 2 years of engineering management experience.
- You possess a strong understanding of what constitutes high-quality code and effective software engineering processes, creating an environment that fosters these principles.
- An execution-focused mindset, capable of navigating through ambiguity and delivering results.
- An ability to balance long-term strategic thinking with short-term planning.
- Experience in creating, delivering, and operating multi-tenanted, distributed systems at scale.
- You can be hands-on when needed – whether that’s writing/reviewing code or technical documents, participating in on-call rotations and leading incidents, or triaging/troubleshooting bugs.
- Your passion for building an open financial system that brings the world together drives you to excel in this role.
Nice to haves:
- You have experience building distributed systems/integrations
- You’ve worked in environments like retail, a brokerage or companies similiar to Coinbase
- You have experience with any big retailer that has processed payments
Pay Transparency Notice: Depending on your work location, the target annual salary for this position can range as detailed below. Full time offers from Coinbase also include target bonus + target equity + benefits (including medical, dental, vision and 401(k)).
Pay Range: $218,025—$256,500 USD
