Job Description

Gloucester Business Park, Gloucester or Atlantic Quay, Glasgow – with flexibility of working from home, minimum 3 days a week in the office.
Some travel will be required across the UK, France, Germany.

Are you a qualified Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in Safety Case principles or mechanical equipment design? Are you motivated and delivery-focused, with hands-on experience working with valves? If you thrive in fast-paced, challenging environments and enjoy making an impact, we’d love to have you join EDF as a Mechanical Equipment Engineer!

The Opportunity

As a Mechanical Equipment Engineer for Mechanical Equipment (Valves), you’ll oversee the delivery of mechanical equipment contracts within Nuclear Services (NS), with a specific focus on valve systems. You’ll work within the Engineering Function, supporting key Pressurised Water Reactor (PWR) projects such as Hinkley Point C (HPC) and Sizewell C (SZC), ensuring robust technical oversight of the supply chain and alignment with nuclear safety case requirements.

You’ll play a key role in fulfilling EDF’s Intelligent Customer responsibilities by maintaining oversight from design through to commissioning. This includes managing relationships with external designers, manufacturers, and regulators such as the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR). Your work will contribute to the successful technical delivery of approximately 150 mechanical equipment contracts across the plant.

Pay, benefits and culture

Alongside a starting salary of £60,000 and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include a range of benefits, from the big and formal to the small and personal.

We’re talking about everything from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, gym membership to season ticket loans.

At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone’s working needs are different. Whether you’re in our office spaces, on site, or working remotely, we promote an environment that supports collaboration, connection, and comfort. No matter where you are, our priority is to make sure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated.

Here, we do right by each other and everyone’s welcome. We’re on an action-oriented journey, championing equity, diversity, and inclusion. We’d like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.

We’re a disability confident employer and we’ll do all we can to help with your application. Please let us know if you need to request reasonable adjustments.

We take pride in fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment, where the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our employees drive fresh thinking and innovation. We understand that success means different things to different people. We believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That’s why we support you to pursue a career that’s unique to you. Because success is personal.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll provide expert technical guidance to project teams, resolving complex engineering issues and ensuring pragmatic, standards-compliant solutions are delivered. Taking ownership of designated scopes of work, you will act as the primary technical point of contact for delivery teams, ensuring safe, constructible, and fit-for-purpose designs. You’ll review and accept design documentation from suppliers while maintaining clear traceability to safety case requirements and regulatory compliance.

Additionally, you will identify and manage technical risks and opportunities, escalating issues when necessary to maintain project delivery. Building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders—including managing interfaces with the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR)—you will also support and mentor junior engineers through technical leadership.

Who you are

You’ll have a degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, with Chartered Engineer status being highly desirable. Practical experience in managing contractual aspects within project environments is also important. You’ll bring solid knowledge of Safety Case principles and their application throughout the project lifecycle. Experience in equipment design and manufacturing—particularly with valves—is essential. Familiarity with Nuclear Power Station design, along with a good understanding of CDM regulations and UK legislative requirements, would be advantageous.

If this sounds like you then we’d love to hear from you!

Closing date for applications: 29th June 2025.
Interviews to be conducted from 7th July 2025.
