Upvest is one of the few fintechs in Europe that can provide its B2B clients with the full range of investment opportunities in the areas of principal broking business, proprietary trading, and safe custody business for traditional securities. The company was founded in 2017 by Martin Kassing and currently employs more than 180 people across Europe. Its latest β¬100m fundraising round (Series C) was led by Hedosophia and Sapphire Venture, with continued support from existing investors including Bessemer Venture Partners, BlackRock, Earlybird, HV Capital, Motive Ventures, and Notion Capital.
We currently employ 200+ people across Europe with our headquarters based in Berlin, Germany, and hubs in Tallinn, Estonia, and London, UK.
Your mission
Revolutionize the investment infrastructure in Europe by enabling fully localized tax handling across jurisdictions
Help users save millions in personal taxes, boosting investment returns and financial security by enabling localized tax wrappers
Enable Upvestβs international expansion by navigating complex European tax regulations
Partner with leading fintechs to ensure product-market fit and meet diverse regulatory needs
Collaborate with top tax consultancies and software vendors in Europe and the UK
This role will give you the opportunity to:
Become Upvestβs tax subject matter expert, working cross-functionally within the Operations organization and closely collaborating with key stakeholders such as the Product and Engineering teams
Ensure compliance with ongoing tax reporting obligations, including but not limited to: Financial Transaction Tax (FTT) Vorabpauschale, FSAK reporting, FATCA and Qualified Intermediary (QI) regulations, Common Reporting Standard (CRS) and other relevant local tax requirements across jurisdictions
Monitor and interpret changes in tax legislation across relevant markets, assessing impact and ensuring timely adaptation of internal processes
Collaborate with external advisors and regulatory bodies to ensure alignment with evolving tax requirements and best practices
Lead the testing and validation of new tax reporting features and the implementation of tax-related tools
Conduct first- and second-level reviews of tax reports, including both monthly and annual reporting cycles
Contribute to process automation and system enhancements, working with Product and Engineering teams to streamline tax reporting and reduce operational risk
Develop and maintain internal tax policies and documentation, ensuring clarity, consistency, and audit readiness
Provide training and guidance to internal teams on tax-related matters, fostering awareness and compliance across the organization (e.g. the correct tax treatment of corporate actions across diverse asset classes, including equities, bonds, derivatives and mutual funds)
Role requirements:
Bachelorβs degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or a related field
Minimum of 7 years of relevant professional experience, with a focus on Tax Operations, Tax Technology or Corporate Taxation
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with solid knowledge of the current tax technology landscape
Proven ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a dynamic environment
Fluent in both English and German, with excellent written and verbal communication skills
Qualification as a Certified/Chartered Accountant is a strong plus
Experience with tax technology providers such as Objectway or CPB is a strong plus
