The Opportunity: Director of Performance Marketing:

We’re looking for a strategic and results-driven Director of Performance Marketing to lead our growth engine here at Ground News. As the first in this role, you’ll architect and execute performance marketing strategies that directly accelerate subscriber acquisition and generate tangible, sustainable revenue growth. You’ll bring a high degree of ownership, creative rigor, and analytical discipline to scale our paid efforts across various platforms.

This is a high-impact leadership role that will shape how millions discover and engage with Ground News, helping us build a more informed and less polarized world.

What You’ll Do:

  • Define, own, and iterate on a data-backed performance marketing strategy aligned with business objectives, revenue goals, and ROAS benchmarks.

  • Lead cross-platform growth: Launch, manage, and scale multi-channel, full-funnel campaigns across Meta, Google, and emerging channels.

  • Experiment relentlessly: Identify high-leverage opportunities through rigorous testing of audiences, channels, messaging, and creative formats.

  • Optimize for scale, efficiency, and sustainable CAC.

  • Drive measurable impact: Own reporting, forecasting, and attribution models.Β 

  • Ensure campaigns directly contribute to subscriber and revenue growth.

  • Collaborate and influence: Partner with internal stakeholders and external agencies to produce high-performing, insight-driven creative assets.

  • Build the foundation: Own and evolve our martech stack and data workflows to better inform spend allocation, performance tracking, and audience insights.

  • Report to leadership: Regularly present performance insights and growth opportunities to our founders.

What You’ll Bring:

  • 7–10+ years of performance marketing experience, including 4+ years in a senior strategic role driving measurable growth in B2C environments.

  • A track record of managing a minimum of $100K monthly budgets with clear ROI and full-funnel attribution, and experience in scaling monthly budgets aligned with revenue growth.Β 

  • Demonstrated ability to scale a channel from 0 to 1, then from 1 to 100, across creative, targeting, and optimization.

  • Deep expertise in paid social and search platforms, with hands-on experience across Meta, Google, and emerging ad networks.

  • Strong data fluency, with experience building dashboards, conducting funnel analysis, and making performance-based decisions.

  • Proven ability to lead internal teams and external partners, translating business goals into actionable campaign strategies.

  • Strong creative judgment, as well as ability to assess and influence UGC, motion graphics, and narrative-driven ad formats for performance.

  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills, framing performance insights for a senior, cross-functional audience.

Bonus Points:

  • Experience scaling paid marketing for consumer tech, subscription-based SaaS, or digital media products.

  • Familiarity with AI tools for creative testing or automation.

  • A deep curiosity about the media ecosystem and the political landscape in the U.S. and globally.
