Job Description

What you’d be doing in this role

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that’s all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you’ll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

As the teams’ Engineering Manager for the Events & Launches team, you will be responsible for:

  • You’ll lead motivated engineers who build, run, and analyse promotions directly on the Canva product’s pages for web & mobile

  • You’ll lead your team to productise their work, while also developing together with them. You’ll be involved in creating tools and improving code structure to ensure efficient and effective engineering deliverables.

  • You’ll work in a cross-functional team with UI/UX designers, content designers, product managers, and engineers (including software, QA and data analysts)

  • You’ll lead your team by example and empower them to resolve technical conflicts efficiently and effectively as we collaborate across external teams in Canva

  • You’ll work closely with senior leaders and founders for company wide global launches and events and bring the magic to everything you do

If you are passionate about going above and beyond to support significant campaigns, inspired by the visibility of your team’s work on a grand stage for millions to see, and motivated by the challenge of engaging and inspiring your team for major events while collaborating with various stakeholders from Marketing and company leadership, then this role is perfect for you.

  • You have experience working with marketing campaigns and in product promotions

  • You have experience of technical leadership specifically in the Front End space as well as people leadership experience.

  • You have strong knowledge of JavaScript and web technologies (HTML/CSS)

  • You’ll have very strong software engineering fundamentals and first principles; comfortable contributing to design documents and performing thorough code reviews

  • Ability to work cross-functionally across multiple internal teams, effectively partnering with individuals from diverse backgrounds, disciplines, and professional perspectives, particularly with Product and Design.

  • You should be adept at navigating chaotic situations and evaluating efficient engineering delivery under pressure.

  • You’ll have the ability to be adaptable especially during major campaigns. You balance team support with clear communication, helping set realistic expectations and ensuring what we design is truely feasible ti implement.

We are the Marketing Technology Experiences group, and our mission is simple yet powerful: “To connect Canva to every user with engaging and effective digital experiences.” We’re a multidisciplinary team that designs and builds web, interactive, and scalable solutions that help drive discovery, education, and inspiration for millions of users globally.
The Events & Launches team focuses on highlighting significant upcoming events, such as Canva Create, and the introduction of new features. Their goal is to create memorable in-product promotions that generate excitement for these globally broadcast moments. Each year, the team partners with creative and motion designers to craft and implement enchanting UX experiences for our users (check out the preview on YouTube for Portal 2025). The team also supports a variety of Canva campaigns, focusing on scaling efforts to optimize delivery while prioritizing performance, security, and speed.
