Sample interview questions
I would clarify the user outcome and acceptance criteria with the product owner, identify affected services and data flows, and split the work into deliverable slices. I would design the API and UI contracts early, implement the Java/Spring backend and React frontend with automated tests, then use code review and monitored deployment to validate the release.
I use Spring Boot to create clearly layered services, validate inputs at the boundary, centralize error handling, and keep business logic independently testable. I would use JUnit for unit tests, add integration tests for critical endpoints and persistence behavior, and ensure configuration and secrets are handled safely across environments.
I build React interfaces from reusable, typed components and keep server state separate from local UI state. For a complex form, I would use an appropriate form library, provide validation and accessible feedback, use TanStack Query for API caching and mutations, and test key user flows with React Testing Library.
I start by assessing access controls, input validation, authentication and authorization boundaries, dependency risks, logging practices, and exposure of sensitive data. I apply secure defaults, avoid placing secrets in code or client-side applications, use parameterized data access patterns, and make security checks part of code review and testing.
I would select storage based on access patterns, consistency requirements, query needs, and operational trade-offs rather than using a database by default. For example, MongoDB can fit document-oriented workflows, Redis is useful for low-latency caching, Elasticsearch supports search, and Cassandra can support high-scale distributed workloads when its data-model constraints fit the use case.

Qualifications

- experience in the field of computer science or engineering
- several years of work experience in the software development of enterprise web applications
- professional experience with JavaScript/Typescript and popular frameworks like React (Angular or Vue are also acceptable)
- relevant work experience with Java 11+, Spring / Spring Boot
- good knowledge in software design (e.g. design patterns)
- a good command of written and spoken technical English
And nice to have…
