Sample interview questions
How would you design a secure shared authentication and authorization platform for multiple healthcare applications?

I would define a centralized identity model with clear tenant boundaries, standards-based authentication such as OIDC, and policy-driven authorization. I would ensure auditability, least-privilege access, secure secret handling, and operational controls appropriate for PHI/PII environments, while providing well-documented SDKs or service interfaces for application teams.

Describe how you would improve a Kubernetes and GitOps delivery path used by several engineering teams.

I would first map the current developer workflow, deployment risks, approval points, and operational failure modes. I would standardize reusable Helm charts and environment configuration, use ArgoCD for declarative reconciliation and drift detection, introduce progressive delivery where appropriate, and add clear observability, rollback procedures, and self-service documentation.

How do you make architectural decisions that affect several teams without becoming a bottleneck?

I start by clarifying constraints, user needs, security requirements, and measurable outcomes. I use lightweight RFCs to invite early input, document tradeoffs and decisions, and establish platform interfaces that give teams autonomy within safe standards. Regular feedback loops and adoption metrics help validate whether the architecture is reducing friction.

What guardrails would you establish for AI coding agents in a regulated software environment?

I would restrict agent access according to least privilege, prevent exposure of sensitive production data and secrets, and require code review and automated security checks for generated changes. I would also define approved contexts and knowledge sources, maintain audit logs, evaluate agent performance against representative tasks, and establish clear policies for data retention and acceptable use.

How would you prioritize platform roadmap work when teams request both reliability improvements and new developer capabilities?

I would prioritize using a transparent framework that weighs customer impact, security and compliance risk, reliability risk, engineering leverage, and delivery effort. Critical reliability or security work would receive immediate attention, while high-leverage developer experience initiatives would be sequenced with measurable adoption and productivity goals. I would communicate tradeoffs, dependencies, and expected outcomes regularly to stakeholders.

About Us

On this journey for over 12 years, Qventus is leading the transformation of healthcare. We enable hospitals to focus on what matters most: patient care. Our innovative solutions harness the power of machine learning, generative AI, and behavioral science to deliver exceptional outcomes and empower care teams to anticipate and resolve issues before they arise.

Our success in rapid scale across the globe is backed by some of the world’s leading investors. At Qventus, you will have the opportunity to work with an exceptional, mission-driven team across the globe, and the ability to directly impact the lives of patients. We’re inspired to work with healthcare leaders on our founding vision and unlock world-class medicine through world-class operations.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to be the technical lead of our Web Applications Platform team. This team builds the foundation under every application at Qventus. They own all shared services, including authentication/identity and configuration. The platform team also owns the build and deployment path that carries code into each hospital customer’s isolated environment.

Platform’s customers are other engineering teams, so the work is measured by how efficiently and safely they can create and then grow our applications.

You’ll be the technical lead of a team composed of several other engineers. That means setting technical direction, owning the roadmap in collaboration with stakeholders, and writing code or configurations as needed. Your highest-leverage work will be cross-team efforts to make great architectural choices that impact a half dozen applications. This role reports to an engineering manager, who is responsible for team health and career growth.

This role is also central to defining how engineering benefits from AI coding tools: the standards, the context that makes agents genuinely useful, and the guardrails that keep our codebase and deployed apps secure and compliant.

What We’re Looking For

  • 5+ years building and operating production software
  • Experience on a platform, infrastructure, internal tools, or developer-facing team
  • Strong Python, Django, and FastAPI skills
  • Real depth in Kubernetes and GitOps delivery (Helm, ArgoCD)
  • Experience owning an authentication / authorization system
  • Excellent project management skills: breaking down, estimating, sequencing, and communicating about work in progress
  • Clear written and verbal communication; influential beyond one team

Bonus Points For

  • Multi-tenant SaaS experience
  • Backstage, internal developer portals, or service scaffolding tooling
  • Healthcare tech knowledge: HIPAA, PHI/PII, Epic and Cerner integrations, SMART on FHIR
  • Terraform, Jenkins, Datadog and/or APM in general
  • Built or rolled out agent-based dev tooling: MCP servers, coding agents, matrixed evals, spec-driven workflows, shared knowledge bases

Compensation for this role is based on market data and takes into account a variety of factors, including location, skills, qualifications, and prior relevant experience. Salary is just one part of the total rewards package at Qventus. We also offer a range of benefits and perks, including Open Paid Time Off, paid parental leave, professional development, wellness and technology stipends, a generous employee referral bonus, and employee stock option awards.

Salary Range

$180,000—$200,000 USD
