Sample interview questions
How would you investigate a corporate entity to identify its ultimate beneficial owners?

I would begin with official company registries, filing databases, and credible public records to identify directors, shareholders, subsidiaries, and parent entities. I would then cross-reference names, addresses, affiliated companies, media reporting, and jurisdiction-specific records to map ownership and control, documenting sources, confidence levels, and unresolved gaps.

What makes an OSINT finding reliable enough to include in an investigative report?

A reliable finding should come from credible, attributable, and preferably corroborated sources. I would distinguish verified facts from analytical inferences, preserve source links and dates, assess potential bias or outdated information, and clearly explain the evidence supporting each conclusion.

How would you assess potentially suspicious cryptocurrency activity using public information?

I would first identify relevant wallet addresses, transaction patterns, counterparties, and blockchain networks using block explorers and, where available, analytics tools. I would look for indicators such as rapid layering, exposure to high-risk services, links to known illicit addresses, unusual transaction flows, and connections to adverse media or sanctioned entities, while avoiding conclusions that exceed the available evidence.

Describe how you would handle conflicting information about an individual or company.

I would compare the credibility, recency, jurisdiction, and directness of each source and seek additional independent corroboration. In the report, I would transparently note the conflict, explain the basis for my assessment, avoid overstating certainty, and recommend appropriate follow-up where material uncertainty remains.

How do you communicate a complex investigation to non-investigative stakeholders?

I would lead with a concise executive summary that explains the key risk, affected parties, evidence, and recommended action. Supporting details would be organized chronologically or by risk theme, with clear source references and plain language that enables compliance, legal, and operational teams to make informed decisions.
