Sample interview questions
I would first gather the query, schema context, dataset scale, execution timing, and any recent changes. I would reproduce the issue where possible, inspect the query plan with EXPLAIN/EXPLAIN ANALYZE, identify indexing, join, filtering, or configuration concerns, and provide a tested recommendation with clear reasoning.
I resolve cases that can be addressed through verified configuration guidance, documentation, known workarounds, or reproducible troubleshooting steps. I escalate when there is evidence of a platform defect, security concern, account or billing dependency, data-risk scenario, or when deeper product-owner investigation is required; the escalation should include concise reproduction steps, logs, impact, and prior troubleshooting.
I would identify the recurring user goal and common failure points, validate the recommended solution, and determine whether the gap is best addressed through documentation, examples, automated diagnostics, or product changes. I would create or update the relevant resource, link it in future responses, and track whether it reduces duplicate cases and resolution time.
A strong response is timely, precise, empathetic, and actionable. It should restate the issue to confirm understanding, provide ordered steps or code examples appropriate to the user’s context, explain expected results, identify any risks, and state what information is needed if further investigation is required.
I would isolate the smallest reproducible scenario, record environment details, exact setup steps, expected versus actual behavior, timestamps, error messages, and relevant logs. I would then verify the behavior independently, create a focused test case if appropriate, assess severity and user impact, and submit a clear issue for engineering.
