Sample interview questions
Describe a regulatory or accreditation readiness program you led from initial gap analysis through implementation.

I would explain the regulatory framework, how I converted requirements into a work breakdown structure, assigned accountable owners, tracked evidence, and escalated risks. I would quantify the outcome, such as readiness achieved, findings reduced, or audit milestones completed on time.

How would you build a TJC readiness roadmap when clinical and operational teams have competing priorities?

I would begin with a standards-to-evidence gap assessment, define workstreams and accountable owners, then sequence work by survey risk, dependency, and effort. I would use a recurring governance cadence and transparent dashboard to resolve blockers and maintain leadership visibility.

How do you translate complex compliance requirements for executive audiences?

I focus executive updates on the decision required, current readiness status, material risk, mitigation owner, and timing. Supporting detail remains available in the project plan, while the executive summary uses plain language and concise data-driven indicators.

What is your approach to running a mock survey or tracer activity?

I define the scenarios, standards being tested, interview participants, evidence requirements, and scoring criteria in advance. After the exercise, I facilitate a debrief, document findings by severity, assign corrective actions, and retest high-risk gaps before the actual survey.

How do you influence workstream leads when you do not have direct authority over them?

I establish credibility by understanding their operational constraints and linking requested actions to patient care, accreditation risk, and shared organizational goals. I create clear commitments, make dependencies visible, provide practical support, and escalate only when agreed milestones or critical risks require leadership intervention.

About The Role

Lyra Health’s Clinical Strategy team is seeking a seasoned Senior Operations Lead for a high-impact, 6-month contract engagement focused on driving our Joint Commission (TJC) Behavioral Health Care and Human Services (BHC) accreditation readiness.

This role sits at the intersection of clinical strategy, regulatory execution, and cross-functional project management. Acting as the primary project lead, you will bridge the gap between Clinical Strategy, Clinical Operations, and key cross-functional teams to drive our accreditation roadmap.

This role is ideal for a senior healthcare project manager who excels at translating complex regulatory mandates or compliance standards into actionable project plans. While familiarity with Joint Commission standards is preferred, we are primarily seeking an exceptional operational lead who can quickly get up to speed on TJC requirements, partner with clinical domain experts, and drive execution. You are a self-directed player-coach who is comfortable getting “in the weeds” with workstream leads to build compliance documentation while also zooming out to present a 30,000-foot risk assessment to leadership.

What You’ll Do (6-Month Scope)

As a senior contractor, you will hit the ground running and lead the execution of our TJC survey readiness roadmap:

  • Roadmap & Work Plan Ownership: Refine, maintain, and drive the master Project Work Plan for TJC Behavioral Health and Telehealth accreditation readiness, establishing clear workstream milestones across clinical and operational teams.

  • Gap Analysis & Risk Mitigation: Continuously identify gaps, compliance risks, and cross-functional dependencies; proactively update the roadmap and implement risk mitigation strategies.

  • Workstream Facilitation: Partner directly with workstream leads to deep-dive into specific TJC standards. Develop supporting materials and process documentation as needed.

  • Mock Survey & Readiness Execution: Organize and project manage internal mock audits, tracer activities, and readiness drills to ensure operational teams are fully prepared for survey execution.

  • Governance & Cross-Functional Alignment: Establish clear communication cadences across stakeholders (live working groups, asynchronous updates, and project dashboards) to drive cross-functional accountability.

  • Executive Visibility: Develop concise, data-driven written updates for senior leadership to highlight progress, key milestones, and critical risks.

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of healthcare project management, healthcare operations, or management consulting experience, preferably within high-growth health tech or clinical environments

  • Demonstrated track record of leading complex, cross-functional regulatory, compliance, or accreditation readiness initiatives from gap analysis through execution

  • Exceptional strategic and project management skills with the ability to influence cross-functional peers and senior leadership without direct authority

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; proven ability to distill complex clinical insights and regulatory requirements into actionable executive summaries

  • A highly organized self-starter who thrives in fast-paced, dynamic environments and can create structure out of ambiguity

  • Deep passion for expanding access to high-quality, evidence-based mental health care

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Direct experience or familiarity with the accreditation process (e.g., The Joint Commission, CARF, NCQA, or other), specifically within Behavioral Health Care and Human Services (BHC) or virtual/telehealth models
