Sample interview questions
Describe an enterprise software implementation you led from discovery through production deployment.

I would explain how I gathered stakeholder requirements, assessed the existing environment, designed the deployment approach, configured and validated the solution, trained administrators, and managed post-launch stabilization. I would emphasize measurable outcomes such as adoption, reduced deployment time, or successful resolution of integration risks.

How would you troubleshoot a BigID deployment that cannot connect to a customer data source?

I would first confirm the error scope and reproduce or review logs, then validate network connectivity, DNS, ports, credentials, permissions, certificates, and source-specific configuration. I would isolate whether the issue is in the platform, container environment, customer network, or source system, document findings, and engage Engineering with concise evidence if product-level investigation is needed.

What is your approach to deploying and supporting applications on Kubernetes?

I would use repeatable deployment manifests or Helm-based workflows, validate cluster capacity and networking, securely manage configuration and secrets, and monitor pod health, events, logs, and resource utilization. For issues, I would assess failed scheduling, image pulls, configuration errors, service connectivity, and persistent-storage dependencies before escalating.

How do you tailor technical training for both system administrators and executive stakeholders?

For administrators, I focus on practical workflows, configuration decisions, troubleshooting, and hands-on exercises. For executives, I focus on business outcomes, implementation status, risks, adoption measures, and how the platform supports security, privacy, and compliance objectives.

Give an example of exercising independent judgment during a customer escalation.

I would describe prioritizing the customer impact, quickly collecting technical facts, proposing a low-risk mitigation, and communicating a clear action plan without waiting for unnecessary approvals. I would also explain how I kept stakeholders informed, involved the appropriate internal teams for root-cause analysis, and documented preventive improvements after resolution.

At BigID, our team is the foundation of our success. Join a people-centric culture that is fast-paced and rewarding: you’ll have the opportunity to work with some of the most talented people in the industry who value innovation, diversity, integrity, and collaboration.

About the Role:

BigID’s Services team is central to how our customers succeed — we own the setup, integration, and deployment of BigID’s discovery tools for customers and implementation partners. As a Services Delivery Engineer, you’ll be the technical backbone of that experience: translating customer requirements into working solutions, troubleshooting deployment issues at their root cause, and partnering with Engineering and Product to make every future rollout smoother than the last.

Who we seek:

BigID is growing quickly, and we are expanding our Services team and seeking a Professional Services Engineer in the EST time zone. The services team plays an important role in the successful setup, integration, and deployment of BigID’s discovery tools for our customers and implementation partners. This position also works to identify the root cause of any deployment issues and works with the larger team to help resolve them to ensure the success of the customer.

What you’ll do:

  • Partner directly with client stakeholders to understand technical requirements and align them to business objectives
  • Plan and lead implementation engagements — deploying solution components and configuring the product to meet each client’s specific environment
  • Collaborate across internal teams and client organizations to ensure smooth rollout and successful integration of BigID solutions
  • Deliver technical training tailored to the audience, from hands-on admins to executive stakeholders
  • Identify root causes of deployment issues and drive them to resolution
  • Work closely with Engineering and Product Management to document field issues, enhancement requests, and opportunities to improve the implementation process

What you’ll bring:

  • 3+ years in a customer-facing technical role, ideally in product implementation or hands-on deployment within enterprise environments
  • Solid troubleshooting and operational knowledge across some combination of: Compute, Storage, Networking, Databases, DevOps, Big Data/Analytics, Security, and Application Development
  • Proven experience across the full solution lifecycle: problem identification, system architecture, hardware/software specification and design, implementation, testing, client training, and deployment
  • A proactive mindset — you look around corners for both internal and customer challenges before they become blockers
  • Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes deployments
  • Working knowledge of one or more databases: MongoDB, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle Database, PostgreSQL, MySQL/MariaDB, or IBM DB2
  • Experience with a major cloud platform: AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform
  • Experience working with REST APIs
  • Programming or scripting proficiency in Java or Python

Nice to have:

  • Familiarity with Hadoop (Hive/Spark)
  • Familiarity with Data Governance, Data Privacy, and/or Data Security Posture Management tools.
  • Prior SaaS implementation experience
