Sample interview questions
Describe an alternative-data product you developed from initial opportunity identification through commercial launch.

I would explain the client problem, the dataset or data gap identified, the validation and sourcing process, the product definition, and the launch plan. I would quantify outcomes such as adoption, revenue, retention, research-quality improvement, or time saved for users, while noting what I learned and iterated after release.

How would you evaluate whether a prospective dataset is worth commercializing?

I would assess customer demand, uniqueness, coverage, accuracy, update frequency, historical depth, delivery reliability, licensing rights, compliance considerations, and integration effort. I would then compare expected client value and revenue potential against acquisition, processing, and ongoing operational costs, validating assumptions with target users before committing significant resources.

How do you translate financial-client workflows into a product roadmap?

I start with structured client interviews and usage evidence to identify high-frequency decisions, friction points, and the signals clients need to act confidently. I prioritize opportunities using expected client impact, strategic fit, feasibility, and speed to learning, then communicate a roadmap with clear outcomes, milestones, dependencies, and success metrics.

Tell us about a time you influenced partners across technical, commercial, and research teams without direct authority.

I would describe establishing a shared customer problem and measurable objective, making trade-offs transparent, and tailoring communication to each team's priorities. I would use regular decision forums, written updates, and clear ownership to resolve dependencies, maintain momentum, and keep stakeholders aligned through delivery.

What metrics would you use to determine whether a new data product is successful?

I would use a balanced set of commercial, customer, and operational metrics: product revenue, renewal and expansion rates, client adoption, active usage, time to value, customer satisfaction, data quality, delivery reliability, and support burden. For an early launch, I would also track leading indicators such as pilot conversion, interview feedback, feature usage, and validation against the intended customer workflow.
