Sample interview questions
How would you identify the highest-value integration opportunities for larger professional businesses on Thumbtack?

I would combine qualitative workflow research with quantitative analysis of customer segments, retention, lead conversion, operational friction, and existing tool adoption. I would size opportunities by customer value, strategic differentiation, implementation complexity, and partner viability, then validate the top assumptions through prototypes or limited partner pilots.

Describe how you would balance a near-term partner integration opportunity with a longer-term platform investment.

I would clarify the expected customer and business outcomes for both paths, identify reusable platform components, and make dependencies explicit. When possible, I would sequence a partner launch that creates learning and value while deliberately building reusable APIs, data models, and operational capabilities rather than a one-off solution.

What metrics would you use to evaluate success for a new Pro integration?

I would use adoption and activation metrics, integration completion rates, workflow usage, time saved, lead or job conversion, retention, revenue contribution, and support burden. I would also track partner-specific operational health, such as API reliability, data freshness, error rates, and time to onboard.

How do you create alignment when engineering, sales, partnerships, and design have different priorities?

I start by defining the shared customer problem, desired outcome, constraints, and decision criteria in a clear narrative. I then make tradeoffs transparent, use data and customer evidence to resolve disagreement, assign owners and milestones, and maintain regular communication so stakeholders understand both progress and rationale.

How would you apply an AI-first mindset to this product area responsibly?

I would look for agentic workflows that reduce setup effort, help pros understand integration data, surface actionable recommendations, or accelerate internal product discovery. I would validate accuracy, user control, privacy, reliability, and measurable customer benefit before scaling, rather than using AI where deterministic workflows are more appropriate.

Now, larger and more sophisticated businesses represent one of our biggest opportunities for growth — and serving them well requires us to rethink what Thumbtack can offer. In this role, you’ll shape how we win with this segment, from connecting Thumbtack with the tools pros use to run their businesses to creating the foundational experiences they need to succeed at scale. What you’ll do

  • Develop a deep understanding of how these pros operate, using research and data to identify unmet needs, product gaps, and new opportunities for growth.

  • Set the strategy for our APIs, data integrations, and partner offerings, working directly with partnerships, business development, and external partners to create value for pros and open new growth channels.

  • Lead new products and capabilities from early discovery through launch and adoption, helping complex businesses succeed on a product originally designed for smaller businesses.

  • Partner with engineering to make thoughtful tradeoffs between near-term opportunities and durable technical foundations that can support future products and partnerships.

  • Bring engineering, design, data science, marketing, sales, and partnerships together around clear priorities and lead execution across organizational boundaries.

  • Define success, test the highest-potential ideas, and use what you learn to scale the experiences and growth levers that deliver meaningful results.

In order to be successful, you must bring

  • 5+ years of product management experience, with a track record of owning complex product areas and delivering meaningful customer and business outcomes.

  • Experience turning ambiguous, early stage opportunities into clear product strategies and taking new products from discovery through launch and adoption.

  • Strong technical fluency and experience owning technically complex products, with the ability to partner with engineering on APIs, data, integrations, and system tradeoffs while keeping customer value at the center.

  • Excellent product judgment and customer empathy, with the ability to understand complex business workflows and turn them into simple, intuitive experiences.

  • Strong analytical thinking and business acumen, including the ability to uncover growth opportunities, define success, and balance near-term impact with long-term investments.

  • An AI-first mindset: curiosity, adaptability, and enthusiasm for using agentic AI workflows throughout product development, paired with sound judgment about where AI adds value.

  • Proven ability to influence and lead across engineering, design, data science, commercial teams, and external stakeholders, using clear communication to navigate different incentives and build alignment.
