Sample interview questions
How would you structure a Growth engineering organization responsible for acquisition, activation, and conversion?

I would organize teams around durable customer journeys and business outcomes, with clear ownership for key funnel metrics. Each team would have shared product, design, and data partnerships, while engineering standards and platform investments would be coordinated across the organization to avoid short-term optimization at the expense of scalability.

Describe how you decide whether to ship an experiment quickly or invest in a more scalable solution.

I assess expected customer and business impact, confidence in the hypothesis, reversibility, operational risk, and the cost of future rework. For high-learning, low-risk hypotheses, I favor a fast and instrumented implementation; once evidence supports the opportunity, I prioritize a robust solution with the right architecture and observability.

How do you help engineers connect their work to revenue and growth metrics?

I translate company goals into team-level objectives and ensure every initiative has a clear hypothesis, leading indicator, and expected outcome. In planning and retrospectives, I review both delivery quality and metric movement so engineers understand how their technical choices affect user behavior and commercial results.

How would you address an engineer who consistently delivers work but has limited measurable impact?

I would first clarify expectations and determine whether the gap is in problem framing, prioritization, execution, or access to the right data and stakeholders. I would create a focused development plan with concrete outcome-based goals, regular coaching, and support; if progress remains insufficient, I would manage performance transparently and fairly.

How do you handle disagreement with product leadership when business urgency conflicts with technical quality?

I make the trade-offs explicit by outlining customer impact, delivery timelines, technical risks, and the cost of deferring foundational work. I aim to find a staged path that delivers near-term value while protecting critical reliability and scalability needs, then document the decision and ownership for follow-up investments.
