Sample interview questions
I would begin by reviewing alert history, incident data, and service-level objectives to identify alerts that are not actionable or do not correlate with user impact. I would tune thresholds and routing, define clear ownership, add runbooks, and prioritize alerts tied to error budgets, latency, availability, and capacity. I would then validate the changes through game days and continuously measure page volume, response time, and missed-incident risk.
I would use version-controlled infrastructure as code with reusable modules, peer review, automated validation, policy checks, and environment-specific promotion pipelines. Changes would be planned and tested in lower environments, rolled out progressively where possible, and paired with monitoring and documented rollback procedures. For higher-risk changes, I would use change windows, feature flags or canaries, and explicit operational ownership.
I would standardize cluster configuration, add-on versions, node groups, access controls, observability, and upgrade runbooks across the fleet. Before upgrades, I would assess Kubernetes version compatibility, workload disruption budgets, deprecated APIs, add-on dependencies, and capacity headroom. I would use staged rollouts, validate workload health and autoscaling behavior, and maintain rollback or recovery plans for each upgrade phase.
I would start with availability, latency, data-residency, RTO, and RPO requirements, then identify which components can be active-active versus active-passive. The design would include regional traffic routing, health checks, replicated or regionally partitioned data, tested failover procedures, and clear consistency trade-offs. I would regularly test failover through controlled exercises and use metrics to confirm that recovery objectives are achievable.
A practical example is an automation that detects infrastructure drift, correlates it with recent deployments and policy rules, and proposes a reviewed remediation pull request. I would keep it bounded by strong guardrails: approved data sources, deterministic policy checks, human approval for production changes, audit logs, and evaluation against false-positive and false-negative rates. This improves response speed without giving an LLM unrestricted control over production infrastructure.

About the Role
We’re looking for a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to improve reliability and stability of Webflow’s customer-facing, production infrastructure, serving millions of page views per hour. Our product is used by over 2 million users world-wide across 190 countries, and you’ll help ensure our platform is secure and scalable for these users as tens of thousands of projects are launched on Webflow each month.

As an Senior Infrastructure Engineer you will:
- Own and evolve the cloud platform that Webflow’s product and engineering teams depend on, including our compute layer, EKS fleet, serverless infrastructure, networking, and cloud operations across AWS and GCP.
- Help design and maintain our infrastructure-as-code foundation, evolving the patterns and shared components other teams build on.
- Design and maintain the networking layer that connects Webflow’s services, ensuring reliability, security, and scalability across our cloud environments.
- Help make observability data the foundation of how we operate, improving the dashboards, alerts, and SLOs for the infrastructure you own so that issues are caught before customers notice, and on-call pages are actionable instead of noisy.
- Build and maintain AI-powered automation that improves how we manage cloud infrastructure, from policy-as-code and drift detection to LLM-assisted runbook generation.
- Help define the culture of this growing team as it expands its international presence.
About you
You’ll thrive as a Senior Infrastructure Engineer if you:
- Have a background as an infrastructure, site reliability engineer or cloud engineer with an enthusiasm for automation and code, or a background as a software engineer with deep enthusiasm for cloud infrastructure and distributed systems.
- Have 5+ years of experience owning and operating cloud infrastructure in a customer-facing environment that allows for little to no downtime.
- Have deep hands-on experience with AWS and a strong opinion on what good cloud operations look like.
- Have experience managing Kubernetes clusters at scale, including upgrades, node group management, autoscaling, and cluster add-on lifecycle.
- Have experience with infrastructure-as-code tools like Pulumi or Terraform, and a strong preference for changes made through code, not consoles.
- Have experience navigating multi-region or multi-cloud environments on AWS or GCP.
- Stay curious and open to growth, demonstrating a proactive embrace of AI, and actively building and applying fluency in emerging technologies to elevate how we work, drive faster outcomes, and expand collective impact.
It would be a bonus if you had even one of the following:
- Experience with Karpenter, cluster autoscaler, or other Kubernetes-native scaling tooling.
- Have experience with OpenTelemetry, Datadog, Prometheus or Grafana
- Experience building AI-assisted infrastructure tooling, including cost optimization loops, anomaly detection, or policy-as-code with LLM assistance.
- Experience contributing to multi-region architecture including data residency, regional failover, or latency-based routing.
