Sample interview questions
How would you create a monthly performance narrative for a brand advertising client?

I would first validate the underlying campaign, retailer, and conversion data, then compare results with prior periods, benchmarks, and campaign goals. I would connect delivery and efficiency metrics such as spend, impressions, CTR, conversion rate, ROAS, and new-buyer acquisition to business outcomes. The final narrative would highlight what happened, why it happened, recommended optimizations, and expected implications for the next period.

Describe how you would evaluate whether an ad campaign drove incremental results.

I would define an appropriate treatment and control methodology, ideally using user-level or retailer-level exposure data and a comparable unexposed audience. I would measure outcome differences while accounting for baseline purchasing behavior, seasonality, market changes, and selection bias. I would report both the estimated incremental lift and limitations of the methodology so stakeholders can make informed budget decisions.

What steps would you take to ensure a client-facing dashboard is accurate and reliable?

I would document metric definitions and source tables, build validation checks for completeness and freshness, and reconcile headline totals with trusted source reports. I would test filters, date logic, joins, and edge cases before release. I would also establish an owner, refresh schedule, and QA process so recurring reports remain consistent over time.

How would you use SQL to identify high-potential prospects for the sales team?

I would combine market, retailer, product, and advertising data to segment brands by category penetration, market share, geographic availability, historical advertising activity, and growth trends. I would then rank prospects using a transparent scoring framework that considers addressable retailer reach and evidence of likely advertising impact. The output would include concise prospect briefs with supporting metrics and recommended outreach narratives.

How do you handle challenging data questions during a client meeting?

I would answer directly when the data and methodology support a confident conclusion, explaining the metric in business terms. If the question requires validation, I would clearly state what I can confirm, avoid speculation, and commit to a specific follow-up with the required analysis. Maintaining credibility is more important than offering an immediate but uncertain answer.
