Sample interview questions
I would first assess customer impact and stabilize the service using established incident procedures. I would correlate monitoring alerts, hardware logs, environmental readings, recent changes, and ticket history to isolate likely causes, then validate the hypothesis through non-disruptive checks or an approved maintenance action. After resolution, I would document the root cause, corrective actions, and preventive monitoring or process improvements.
I evaluate current and projected rack power draw, PDU and circuit capacity, A/B power redundancy, thermal load, airflow design, available rack units, weight limits, and upstream electrical capacity. I also reserve headroom for growth and failure scenarios, validate plans against data center standards, and record the resulting allocation in DCIM.
I use Linux command-line tools to inspect system health, storage and network status, hardware logs, processes, services, and resource utilization. My workflow includes reviewing system and application logs, checking interface errors and connectivity, validating mounts or disk health, and gathering structured evidence before escalating or replacing hardware.
I begin with an approved change plan that includes dependencies, implementation steps, rollback actions, validation checks, and communication requirements. During the work, I follow labeling, cabling, ESD, lifting, and power-safety standards, verify each connection and configuration, and update asset inventory and documentation immediately after successful validation.
I would provide concise, step-by-step instructions with exact rack, device, port, and labeling details, while maintaining a shared incident timeline. I would ask the technician to confirm each physical action, validate results through monitoring and command-line checks, and escalate through the vendor process when replacement parts or deeper support are required.
