Sample interview questions
I would first establish the page’s goal and baseline metrics, including traffic source, engagement, form completion, conversion rate, and page performance. I would review the user journey, messaging hierarchy, calls to action, friction points, accessibility, and mobile behavior, then form prioritized hypotheses. After implementing targeted changes, I would use controlled experiments or segmented before-and-after analysis to validate impact while ensuring event tracking is reliable.
I choose the rendering approach based on content volatility, SEO needs, personalization, and performance. SSG is generally ideal for stable, SEO-focused marketing pages; ISR works well when CMS content needs timely refreshes without rebuilding the entire site. SSR is useful for request-specific content, while CSR should be reserved for highly interactive or authenticated experiences where server-rendered content is less important.
I would combine field data from real-user metrics with lab tools such as Lighthouse and browser performance profiling. I would identify the largest contributors to LCP, INP, and CLS, such as oversized images, render-blocking resources, excessive JavaScript, slow third-party scripts, font loading, or unstable layout elements. I would prioritize fixes by user impact, implement them incrementally, and confirm improvements through both synthetic testing and production monitoring.
I would align event definitions and attribution requirements with Revenue Marketing and Marketing Operations before development begins. This includes consistently tracking CTA interactions, form submissions, campaign parameters, key content engagement, and downstream lead identifiers in analytics and connected systems. I would document the tracking plan, validate events in production, and provide reporting views that connect web changes to funnel performance.
I would start by clarifying the shared goal, user need, constraints, and success metric rather than framing the discussion as a technical preference. I would explain tradeoffs in accessible, non-technical terms and offer practical alternatives that preserve the intended experience while meeting performance, maintainability, or accessibility needs. If needed, I would propose a prototype or experiment so the team can make a decision using evidence.
