Sample interview questions
I would begin by mapping the customer’s legal entities, chart-of-accounts structure, financial dimensions, approval workflows, expense processes, and close requirements. I would then document their Workday integration landscape, data ownership, security constraints, API capabilities, and current pain points. From there, I would define success criteria, identify technical risks and dependencies, and recommend a phased architecture that achieves value quickly without creating long-term support burden.
I would first isolate whether the issue is caused by source data, mapping logic, authentication, Workday configuration, or downstream validation. I would compare failed and successful records, inspect integration logs and error messages, validate financial dimensions and ledger-account mappings, and confirm the relevant Workday business process and security permissions. After identifying the root cause, I would communicate a clear remediation plan, test the change in a controlled environment where possible, and document the resolution for future reuse.
I focus on the business outcome, controls, and operational tradeoffs rather than implementation jargon. For example, I would explain that a particular integration design creates a reliable, auditable flow of transaction data into Workday, reduces manual journal work, and supports faster close processes. I would also clarify ownership, exceptions, timing, and any actions required from the finance team.
I would assess the request’s business impact, recurrence across customers, implementation complexity, and support implications. If a custom configuration can solve the need safely, I would propose it with clear boundaries; if not, I would package the evidence, customer impact, and technical requirements for Product and Engineering. The objective is to keep the customer moving while ensuring the recommendation does not introduce fragile one-off behavior.
I would measure time to activation, integration completion and reliability, transaction-processing accuracy, reduction in manual accounting work, user adoption, and resolution time for technical blockers. I would also track whether the customer reaches the agreed financial workflow outcomes, such as accurate coding, dependable data synchronization, and a more efficient month-end close. For Ramp, recurring implementation issues and feature gaps would additionally inform roadmap and enablement priorities.
About Ramp
Ramp is building the smart infrastructure for finance teams, embedded in the transaction flow of every dollar a business spends. We automate how over $200B in annualized spend flows in and out of 70,000+ companies: authorizing payments, flagging risk, categorizing spend, and closing books.
The problems are high-stakes, data-dense, and unforgiving.
We hire people with high agency and high urgency. We look for slope over intercept. We care less about where you trained and more about what you’ve built. At Ramp, everyone is a builder who owns problems end to end and makes consequential decisions that shape the outcome.

If you want to build systems that directly shape how companies move and manage billions, Ramp is the place to do it.
