Sample interview questions
I would begin by defining the decision latency, loss, approval-rate, and review-capacity targets. The architecture would combine transaction context, account history, device and behavioral signals, external identity data, and rule or model outputs into a versioned decision service that returns approve, decline, step-up, or review outcomes. I would also build audit logging, feature monitoring, replay capabilities, and controlled experimentation so thresholds can be adjusted safely as fraud patterns change.
I would use a risk-based approach rather than imposing the same friction on every user. Low-risk flows should remain simple, while elevated-risk signals can trigger progressive verification, transaction holds, or enhanced due diligence. I would partner with Compliance and Product to define clear policy requirements, measure abandonment and false-positive rates, and iterate on interventions that are understandable and actionable for legitimate users.
I would prioritize a unified entity view for users, wallets, devices, transactions, alerts, and prior cases, with a complete immutable audit trail. The tool should support evidence collection, queue routing, role-based access, decision workflows, notes, escalation paths, and integrations with KYC, sanctions, blockchain-intelligence, and customer-support providers. I would design it with investigators early, instrument usage, and automate repetitive enrichment tasks while preserving human review for consequential decisions.
I would first establish a rapid triage process using reports, on-chain activity, product telemetry, and support signals to identify common wallet addresses, applications, transaction patterns, and user journeys. I would deploy layered mitigations such as warnings, transaction simulation or confirmation changes, address labeling, rate limits, and blocks where policy and confidence justify them. After containment, I would backfill detection logic, evaluate missed and false-positive cases, document the incident, and share product and operational learnings with stakeholders.
I translate the broad mission into measurable risks, prioritized capabilities, and an incremental technical roadmap. I align early with Product, Security, Compliance, Operations, and Support on ownership boundaries, service-level expectations, and decision principles, then deliver foundational systems that unlock subsequent work. I communicate trade-offs clearly, create durable standards for observability and safety, and mentor peers through design reviews and collaborative execution.
