Sample interview questions
I would begin by sizing the category through supply, buyer demand, conversion, sell-through, margin, and repeat-purchase data. I would segment growth opportunities by card type, grading level, price band, geography, and seller cohort, then prioritize a small number of initiatives across supply acquisition, pricing, merchandising, and demand generation. Each initiative would have a clear owner, target metric, test plan, and review cadence.
I would monitor leading indicators such as listing volume, bidder activity, sell-through, average selling price, take rate, and seller acquisition. When demand shifts, I would quickly identify whether the constraint is supply quality, pricing, buyer traffic, or auction format and adjust the commercial levers accordingly. I would communicate trade-offs transparently, protecting long-term margin and customer trust rather than pursuing revenue at any cost.
I would define ideal seller profiles based on inventory quality, reliability, expected value, and potential for repeat supply. In partnership with Sales, I would create a targeted acquisition plan, value proposition, onboarding journey, and performance reporting for priority sellers. I would also use seller feedback and funnel data to remove friction and build retention programs for the highest-value partners.
I set a small number of measurable outcomes, clarify decision rights, and establish regular operating rhythms for performance reviews and problem solving. I coach individuals using data and specific feedback while giving them meaningful ownership over their areas. This creates both accountability and the autonomy needed to move quickly when market conditions change.
I would analyze realized price versus estimate, bidder participation, reserve performance, sell-through, and time-to-sale across comparable attributes such as franchise, player, card condition, grade, and scarcity. Based on the findings, I would test changes to pricing guidance, lot composition, auction timing, and seller recommendations. I would scale changes only after validating improvement in conversion, margin, and customer satisfaction.
