Sample interview questions
I begin with a detailed review of departmental costs, labor productivity, purchasing, room-rate strategy, and guest-feedback trends. I prioritize actions that eliminate waste or improve process consistency without reducing service standards, then track results through weekly operating reviews and guest-satisfaction metrics.
I use demand patterns, competitor positioning, local events, booking pace, channel mix, and group displacement analysis to guide pricing and inventory decisions. I work closely with sales and reservations teams to protect rate integrity, optimize profitable business mix, and adjust strategy quickly when demand changes.
I would quickly understand the facts, acknowledge the guest's experience, and provide an appropriate solution within established recovery guidelines. I would also coordinate with the relevant department leaders to resolve the immediate issue, document the root cause, and implement a preventive action after the shift.
I set clear operating goals and accountabilities for each department while reinforcing shared outcomes such as guest satisfaction, profitability, safety, and teamwork. Regular leadership meetings, property walks, data reviews, and one-on-one coaching help me identify cross-functional issues early and align teams on priorities.
I establish recurring audit schedules, assign clear ownership for corrective actions, and maintain documentation for inspections, training, and licenses. I also make compliance part of daily leadership routines so that standards are proactively managed rather than addressed only when an inspection occurs.
