About this role.
Flex is seeking a Product Owner to lead its Accounting Stack for closely held business owners and the accountants who support them. The role owns accounting and ERP connectivity, expense management, bill pay, accounts receivable/payable, invoicing, reconciliation, and financial reporting workflows. This person will build deeply for bookkeepers, controllers, fractional CFOs, and CPAs while partnering across banking, credit, cards, and payments products. Candidates need hands-on product or integration experience with major accounting platforms and strong practical knowledge of accounting operations. The environment emphasizes rapid execution, high ownership, and building a differentiated integrated business-and-personal finance experience.

Sample interview questions
I would combine customer segmentation, accountant workflow research, platform adoption data, integration feasibility, and expected financial impact. I would initially prioritize systems with the strongest overlap among target customers and accountant partners, then sequence capabilities around the workflows that reduce the greatest reconciliation pain.
I would start with the complete transaction lifecycle: card or payment event, receipt capture, approval, GL coding, exception handling, synchronization, and close-period reconciliation. Owners should have minimal friction, while controllers need configurable policies, audit trails, clear exception queues, and reliable accounting-system posting.
Key risks include duplicate or missing transactions, inconsistent chart-of-accounts mappings, timing differences, permission failures, weak audit trails, API limitations, and unclear ownership of corrections. I would address these through idempotent sync design, reconciliation reporting, robust error states, configurable mappings, and clear operational support procedures.
I would interview owners, controllers, and accountants to identify whether the core need is invoice creation, payment collection, receivables visibility, accounting sync, or approval controls. The MVP would focus on a narrow end-to-end flow—creating an invoice, collecting payment, and reconciling it accurately into the accounting system—before expanding into advanced billing features.
I translate accounting needs into measurable business and product outcomes, such as fewer manual journal entries, reduced time to close, lower exception rates, and improved data accuracy. I use workflow maps, representative customer evidence, and explicit requirements for controls and edge cases so teams understand both the user impact and the technical rationale.
Flex is building the AI-native private bank for super premium, closely held business owners.
We are re-architecting the entire financial system for entrepreneurs. From the first dollar a business earns to how that value compounds, moves, and is ultimately spent in real life. Banking, credit, payments, personal finance, financial operations, all rebuilt from the ground up as a single intelligent system.
Since launching publicly in September 2023, we have scaled from zero to nine-figure annualized revenue with a clear path to profitability by late 2026. We move fast, ship relentlessly, and operate with extreme ownership.
Our customers are affluent business owners with $3M to $200M in revenue. The backbone of the economy and one of the most underserved segments in finance. We are replacing the outdated banks and fragmented tools they are stuck with. The opportunity is a roughly $1T+ revenue market hiding in plain sight. We are building toward $100B+ in enterprise value by delivering a product that is fundamentally better, not incrementally improved.
Flex has raised $100M+ in equity and $300M+ in debt.
What we hold ourselves to: mission-critical problems, high bar low ego, speed over comfort, enduring impact.
Locations: Remote. Open to candidates in Canada, Mexico, the United States, Brazil, and Colombia.
The Role
——–
You will own Flex’s Accountants Stack. Accounting integrations, expense management, bill pay, invoicing, AR and AP, and financial reporting. The full set of tools that closely held business owners and the accountants who serve them use to run the financial operations of the company.
The accountant is the lead persona for this role. Bookkeepers, controllers, fractional CFOs, and outside CPAs are the people who actually live in this software day to day. Build for them and the owner wins by default. Build only for the owner and the accountant works around you, which means you lose.
The reason this role exists at Flex and not at every fintech is the unique customer we serve. Super premium business owners with $3M to $200M in revenue have a controller or an outside accountant, real ERP systems (NetSuite, Sage Intacct, sometimes Microsoft Dynamics or Acumatica), and a layered financial life where the business and personal sides are deeply intertwined. The owner pays themselves a distribution, then funds personal investments, then pays for an asset, then expenses something back through the company. Their accountant has to make all of it tie out. We are the only product positioned to make that integrated life elegant for both sides. This role builds it.
You will not build a generic accounting integration. You will build the Accountants Stack that bookkeepers, controllers, and CPAs actually want, which means knowing what they hate about QuickBooks, what they love about NetSuite, what they wish Bill.com did, and where the seams between business and personal finance create the most friction today.
What you will do
—————-
Define the strategy and own the connectivity layer to the accounting and ERP systems our customers’ accountants use. QuickBooks Online, Xero, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, etc.
Build expense management that works for owners and the accountants reconciling on their behalf. Receipt capture, GL coding, approval workflows, integration into the accounting tools without requiring manual reconciliation downstream.
Own bill pay and AR/AP. The workflow from invoice received to vendor paid, from invoice sent to customer paid, with full reconciliation back to the accounting system.
Build the invoicing product. We do not have a real invoicing offering today and customers are starting to ask. Decide what shape it takes and ship it.
Architect the connection between business financial data and personal financial data. This is the wedge no other fintech has. Make the integrated owner life real in product so the accountant can deliver it cleanly.
Partner closely with the Banking, Credit, Cards, and Payments product owners so financial flows tie out cleanly across the stack. No seams. No reconciliation tax for the accountant or the customer.
Translate the controller, CFO, and CPA persona for the rest of the company. We need someone who speaks both owner and accountant fluently. And can translate it to the owner mindset.
What you will need
——————
You have spent years thinking about how business owners and the accountants who serve them actually run financial operations. You know the difference between a bookkeeper, a controller, a fractional CFO, and an outside accountant, and you have built product for at least one of them.
Deep, hands-on familiarity with at least two of: QuickBooks Online, Xero, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, Acumatica. Not “I know they exist.” Actually built in or integrated to them at depth.
You can journal a transaction without looking it up. You understand accrual versus cash basis, the close cycle, what a 1099 is for, and why a controller cares about the audit trail.
You have built either inside an accounting platform, on top of one as an integration partner, or built a fintech product that lives natively in the accounting workflow.
You understand the accountant channel and how CPAs influence product adoption. Bonus if you have built for or partnered with CPAs directly.
Typically 4 to 10 years of experience. Title is not the point.
