The role, at a glance.
This Solution Architect Lead role owns the design and delivery of end-to-end data and analytics architectures, from source-system ingestion through warehousing, transformation, and reporting. The lead will run discovery sessions, translate business needs into technical roadmaps, and serve as the primary technical contact for client stakeholders. The position also manages and mentors data engineers, analysts, and BI developers while ensuring delivery quality and alignment with architecture standards. Candidates need 5–7+ years of relevant experience, strong SQL and data-modeling knowledge, and hands-on experience with a major cloud data platform. The role is remote, client-facing, and may require travel to client sites.

Sample interview questions
I would begin by clarifying the business decisions the client needs to improve, the desired outcomes, key users, and measurable success criteria. I would then inventory source systems, data quality constraints, security requirements, reporting needs, and delivery timelines before documenting assumptions, risks, and an initial architecture recommendation.
I would assess workload patterns, data types, existing cloud commitments, governance needs, team skills, cost model, and the balance between BI, engineering, and machine-learning use cases. The recommendation should be tied to the client’s operating model and future roadmap rather than selecting a platform based solely on technical preference.
I create clear architecture diagrams, design specifications, interface contracts, and acceptance criteria early in the engagement. During delivery, I use regular technical reviews, code and model standards, milestone demonstrations, and risk tracking to validate implementation decisions and address deviations quickly.
I focus on the business capabilities, expected outcomes, cost and risk tradeoffs, and the phased path to value. I use simplified diagrams and plain language, reserving implementation detail for technical teams while clearly communicating what decisions are needed from leadership.
I would establish shared delivery standards, role clarity, realistic workload planning, and recurring one-on-one coaching. I would use architecture reviews and practical feedback to develop skills, while connecting each contributor’s work to client outcomes and maintaining accountability for quality and timelines.
