Sample interview questions
How have you balanced people management responsibilities with maintaining technical credibility?

I establish regular coaching, career-development, and delivery cadences, while staying close to architecture reviews, operational risks, and major technical decisions. I contribute hands-on selectively where it unblocks the team, but prioritize enabling engineers and technical leaders to own solutions.

Describe how you would improve experimentation platform reliability and user trust at scale.

I would begin with customer and internal-user pain points, then define reliability and decision-quality metrics such as experiment latency, data freshness, guardrail coverage, and statistical validity. I would align the roadmap across platform, data, and product stakeholders, invest in observability and safe rollout practices, and continuously validate improvements with users.

Tell us about a time you developed engineers with different experience levels on a distributed team.

I use individualized growth plans, clear expectations, frequent feedback, and deliberate opportunities for ownership. For distributed teams, I add inclusive meeting practices, strong written decision records, and mentorship pairings so development and visibility are not limited by location or seniority.

How do you work with product managers and staff engineers when priorities and technical investments compete?

I frame the discussion around product outcomes, customer impact, risk, and the cost of delay. Together, we make trade-offs explicit, reserve capacity for essential technical health work, and communicate a shared roadmap that links platform investments to measurable product and delivery outcomes.

What is your approach to hiring for a high-performing engineering team?

I define the capabilities the team needs, use structured and inclusive interviews, and evaluate both technical depth and collaborative behaviors. I aim to hire people who raise the technical bar, demonstrate learning agility, and contribute positively to a kind, accountable engineering culture.
