Sample interview questions
How would you structure a proof-of-value engagement for a prospect evaluating Harness application security capabilities?

I would first align with the customer on business outcomes, security risks, success criteria, stakeholders, and a realistic timeline. Next, I would select representative repositories, pipelines, and deployment workflows to demonstrate SAST, SCA, DAST, API security, or runtime protection in context. I would measure findings quality, developer workflow impact, policy enforcement, integration effort, and remediation outcomes. Finally, I would present results against the agreed success criteria and define a practical rollout plan.

How do you explain the difference between SAST, DAST, and SCA to an executive audience?

I frame them as complementary controls across the software lifecycle. SAST identifies potential coding issues early, SCA identifies risks in open-source dependencies and software supply chains, and DAST tests a running application for exploitable weaknesses. Together, they help reduce security debt, improve governance, and lower the business risk of vulnerable software reaching production.

Describe how you would handle a customer request that the current product cannot fully support.

I would clarify the underlying business requirement, technical constraints, priority, and desired outcome rather than immediately focusing on the requested feature. I would be transparent about current product capabilities, propose viable workarounds where appropriate, and document the requirement clearly for product and engineering teams. I would then keep the customer and account team informed of next steps without making uncommitted roadmap promises.

What security concerns do generative AI and API-driven applications introduce, and how would you discuss them with a prospect?

I would address risks such as exposed or over-permissioned APIs, insecure authentication and authorization, sensitive-data leakage, prompt injection, vulnerable dependencies, model or supply-chain integrity, and insufficient runtime visibility. I would connect these technical issues to business consequences including data exposure, compliance risk, service disruption, and loss of customer trust. Then I would map the customer’s priorities to controls embedded in a DevSecOps workflow, from code scanning through runtime protection and policy governance.

How do you tailor a technical demonstration for both security practitioners and executive stakeholders?

I begin by identifying each audience’s goals and concerns. For practitioners, I demonstrate integrations, workflows, finding prioritization, policy controls, and remediation paths; for executives, I focus on risk reduction, governance, deployment velocity, operational efficiency, and measurable business impact. I use one cohesive story but adjust the depth and language so every stakeholder understands the value.
