Sample interview questions
Describe a production system you built and deployed that integrated with external customer systems or APIs.

I would explain the system’s architecture, integration contracts, authentication and reliability approach, deployment process, observability, and measurable customer or operational outcome. I would also cover how I handled API failures, version changes, and rollout risk.

How would you approach debugging a delivery workflow failure involving our platform, a carrier API, and a customer’s internal operational system?

I would first establish the affected workflow, timestamps, correlation IDs, and business impact. I would trace the request across logs and events, validate payloads and state transitions at each boundary, isolate whether the issue is internal or external, communicate status clearly, and implement both an immediate mitigation and a durable preventative fix.

How do you balance rapid customer delivery with maintaining a scalable core platform?

I use reusable interfaces, configuration, feature flags, and well-defined extension points rather than one-off changes whenever possible. I prioritize the customer need while documenting tradeoffs, aligning with product and platform teams, and scheduling follow-up work when a tactical solution creates technical debt.

Tell us about a time you had to explain a complex technical issue to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders.

I tailor the message to the audience: engineers receive root cause, evidence, and remediation details, while operators and leaders receive impact, current status, risk, and next steps. I avoid jargon, communicate early, and provide a written update so all parties share the same understanding.

What would your first 90 days in a forward-deployed role look like?

I would learn the platform architecture, customer workflows, deployment practices, and reliability metrics; build relationships with product, AI, and customer teams; and contribute to a live deployment or high-priority integration. By the end of the period, I would aim to own a customer-facing technical area and identify repeatable improvements for deployment speed and operational resilience.

About Nash

Nash is building the digital logistics infrastructure that powers delivery for some of the world’s largest retailers, tech platforms, and delivery services. Our platform connects merchants, carriers, and customers through unified AI-driven logistics, helping enterprises like Walmart, Woolworths, 7-Eleven, and Coles orchestrate millions of deliveries every month.

We’re now expanding our engineering presence in Australia and looking for a Forward Deployed Engineer who can ship code, solve real customer problems, and help shape how Nash scales across APAC.

The Role

This is hands-on engineering at the edge — not pre-sales, not implementation. You’ll build, deploy, and operate production software directly with customers while working closely with our global product and AI teams.

You’ll be part of the foundational team defining how our Australia engineering office operates. Expect to move fast, own outcomes, and see your work drive real-world impact within weeks, not quarters.

What You’ll Do

• Build and deploy production systems used by top enterprise retailers

• Work directly with customers’ engineering, ops, and leadership teams

• Take new products from concept to live deployments

• Design and extend core infrastructure underpinning global delivery orchestration

• Partner with product and AI teams to influence direction across APAC

• Debug real-world logistics workflows across fleets, APIs, and integrations

Who You Are

• 4 plus years building and shipping production software

• Strong experience with APIs, backend systems, or platform integrations

• Comfortable jumping between code, customer problems, and architecture decisions

• Bias toward speed, iteration, and ownership

• Clear communicator who can work directly with operators, CTOs, and execs

• Motivated by building software that touches the physical world at scale

Why This Role

If you’ve wanted to join a high-velocity YC-backed startup redefining how logistics works worldwide — while getting to build and see your code operate inside real enterprise workflows — this is the one.

Your work will touch millions of deliveries each month and help define Nash’s engineering footprint across APAC.

More about Nash

Nash is the platform that powers modern logistics.

Commerce has inverted. For decades, customers came to where products and services were. Now products and services come to them, on their terms, in real time. That shift has turned every company into a logistics company, even though almost none of them were built to be one. Couriers, fleets, gig workers, parcel carriers, in-store labor, and increasingly autonomous systems all have to be coordinated in real time, against tighter windows and rising expectations, with hard-fought customer trust on the line.

Nash unifies decisioning, execution, and capacity into a single programmable platform. Real-time, AI-native intelligence determines what should happen, operational control executes it, and the platform dynamically orchestrates capacity from any source: a company’s own fleets, partners, or the Nash delivery network. Whether a job involves a courier, a gig driver, an internal fleet, a store employee, a technician, or an autonomous vehicle, Nash selects the right resource and manages execution through completion.

We power delivery and logistics for some of the most recognizable brands in commerce, including Walmart, Urban Outfitters, 7-Eleven, and Woolworths, alongside platforms like Shopify and Toast. Over the next decade, logistics will become as foundational to commerce as payments, cloud, and connectivity. Nash is the platform that powers it.

Nash was founded in 2021 by Mahmoud Ghulman (2x Founder, MIT) and Aziz Alghunaim (2x Founder, 2x YC, Ex-Palantir, MIT) and is backed by Y Combinator, a16z, and other top investors. We are headquartered in San Francisco.
