Sample interview questions
How would you approach developing a new advertising policy for a high-risk but commercially important category?

I would begin with a structured assessment of applicable laws, platform risk, user harm, advertiser needs, enforcement feasibility, and precedent. I would consult Legal, Product, Sales, Operations, and Trust & Safety, then present clear policy options with trade-offs and a recommended approach. After approval, I would define enforcement guidance, escalation paths, success metrics, and a review cadence.

Describe how you would resolve a gray-area ads-policy escalation with significant business impact.

I would gather the relevant facts, applicable policy language, jurisdictional considerations, and prior decisions. I would separate non-negotiable legal or safety constraints from areas where risk can be managed, document the alternatives, and issue a consistent ruling with concise reasoning. If the issue exposes a policy gap, I would initiate a follow-up update to prevent inconsistent future decisions.

How do you translate complex regulatory requirements into practical guidance for non-legal partners?

I focus on the operational decision first: what is permitted, prohibited, or requires review. I use plain language, examples, decision trees, and clearly assigned ownership, while retaining a short explanation of the underlying risk. I also validate the guidance with frontline teams to ensure it can be applied consistently at scale.

What metrics would you use to evaluate whether an ads policy is effective?

I would measure enforcement accuracy and consistency, appeal or reversal rates, policy-violation prevalence, escalation volume and resolution time, user and advertiser harm signals, and operational burden. I would pair those indicators with qualitative feedback from reviewers, Sales, Legal, and Product to identify unintended consequences and prioritize revisions.

How would you maintain consistency across multiple jurisdictions while addressing local requirements?

I would establish a global baseline policy grounded in Reddit’s risk principles, then identify jurisdiction-specific overlays only where required by law or material local risk. Clear documentation, version control, localized implementation guidance, and recurring reviews with regional stakeholders help maintain consistency without overlooking necessary local distinctions.
