The role, at a glance.
Webflow is hiring a senior cloud-focused software engineer to build and operate backend services and infrastructure for Webflow Cloud. The role centers on AWS, Cloudflare, edge compute, CDNs, databases, and reliable production operations for web applications and AI agents. The engineer will own work from discovery and design through rollout and ongoing operation, including participation in an on-call rotation and incident prevention. Candidates need at least five years of production backend experience, strong TypeScript and Node.js skills, and demonstrated service-design ownership. This is a remote-first, permanent full-time employee position based in Argentina.

Sample interview questions
I would begin by defining clear service boundaries, ownership, API contracts, and failure modes. I would use asynchronous workflows for long-running deployment tasks, durable state tracking, idempotency keys, observability, and role-based access controls. I would also design for retries, rollback paths, rate limits, and measurable service-level objectives before scaling the implementation.
I first stabilize customer impact through mitigation, then use logs, metrics, traces, recent changes, and dependency health data to isolate the failure mode. After documenting a blameless root-cause analysis, I prioritize durable fixes such as automated guardrails, better alerts, capacity controls, tests, or architectural changes. I validate the fix in a controlled rollout and track whether the recurrence rate and customer impact decline.
I assess latency requirements, personalization, data consistency, execution limits, security needs, and operational complexity. Static or safely cacheable content belongs at the CDN, lightweight request transformations and geographically close logic can fit edge runtimes, and stateful or compute-intensive workflows generally remain at the origin. I make cache keys, invalidation behavior, and observability explicit so the system remains correct as it scales.
I start with access patterns and measure real query behavior using database metrics and execution plans. I choose indexes and schema constraints that support critical reads and writes, avoid unnecessary joins or unbounded scans, and use pagination and connection management appropriately. For changes, I plan backward-compatible migrations, evaluate locking and replication impact, and monitor performance through rollout.
I use AI to accelerate exploration, scaffolding, test generation, and documentation, but I retain responsibility for architecture and correctness. I validate generated code through review, automated tests, security checks, and production-safe rollout practices. For infrastructure and critical paths, I treat AI output as an untrusted draft and confirm assumptions against system requirements and operational evidence.
