Sample interview questions
I would begin by aligning leadership on the customer problems, market opportunities, business objectives, and measurable outcomes. I would synthesize research and product insights into a clear north-star experience, then translate that vision into principles, strategic bets, and a phased roadmap that teams can execute and evaluate.
I have used clear experience principles, regular critique, stronger design review practices, and visible examples of excellent work to create shared standards. I also invest in coaching and design-system governance so quality becomes a scalable team habit rather than relying on individual review alone.
I set clear expectations around outcomes, craft, collaboration, and leadership behaviours, while tailoring development plans to each person's goals and strengths. I provide frequent actionable feedback, create opportunities for designers to own meaningful strategic work, and use regular calibration to ensure growth and performance are supported fairly.
I would make the disagreement explicit and ground the discussion in customer evidence, strategic goals, delivery constraints, and expected impact. Where uncertainty remains, I would propose a focused experiment or prototype to generate evidence quickly, while preserving trust and shared accountability for the decision.
I would combine customer, operational, and business measures, such as successful payment completion, error and support-contact rates, time to complete key tasks, customer satisfaction, accessibility outcomes, adoption of new capabilities, and retention. I would pair quantitative data with qualitative research to understand why outcomes are changing and where the experience still creates friction.

- Acting as a champion for design at Monzo, influencing how design thinking shapes our products and culture.
🤩 We’d love to hear from you if…

- You know how to scale design influence across an organisation, shaping product direction, ways of working, and culture beyond your immediate team.
- You’re energised by Monzo’s mission to make money work for everyone, and excited to help shape the next generation of payments experiences through thoughtful, magical and innovative design.
