Sample interview questions
Describe a production feature or component you owned from design through deployment.

I would explain the customer problem, the technical design and trade-offs, how I collaborated with stakeholders, the testing and rollout plan, and the measurable outcome after release. I would also cover what I learned and how I improved the component afterward.

How would you investigate a performance regression in a backend API?

I would first confirm the scope using latency, error-rate, and throughput metrics, then compare recent deployments and inspect traces and logs. I would isolate likely bottlenecks such as database queries, external calls, serialization, or resource contention, validate a fix with benchmarks, and release it safely with monitoring and rollback readiness.

What practices do you use to keep a system maintainable while delivering features quickly?

I favor small, well-tested changes, clear interfaces, pragmatic documentation, and regular code review. I address the highest-risk technical debt as part of feature delivery and make trade-offs explicit so the team can balance immediate value with long-term reliability.

How would you approach implementing an authorization change in an IAM-integrated application?

I would clarify the required roles, permissions, resources, and edge cases with product and security stakeholders. Then I would design least-privilege policies, ensure authorization is enforced server-side, add focused automated tests and auditability, and deploy gradually while monitoring for access failures or unexpected permission changes.

How have you used AI tools to improve your engineering workflow?

I use AI tools as an assistant for tasks such as exploring unfamiliar code, generating test ideas, summarizing logs, and drafting documentation. I verify all outputs against source code, tests, security requirements, and team standards rather than treating generated results as authoritative.
