Sample interview questions
I would first use a brief diagnostic problem to identify whether the student is struggling with inverse operations, equation balance, or arithmetic accuracy. I would then model a clear step-by-step method, use visual or real-world examples where useful, and gradually shift from guided practice to independent problems. I would close by checking understanding and assigning a targeted practice activity.
I use frequent questions, short practice cycles, digital whiteboard work, and examples connected to the student’s interests or goals. I also set a clear objective at the start of the lesson and recognize progress throughout the session so the student remains actively involved and confident.
I begin with the student’s current coursework, assessment results, and stated goals. I select one or two measurable learning objectives, prepare examples at an appropriate difficulty level, and include formative checks during the lesson. Afterward, I adjust future plans based on the student’s performance and feedback.
I would identify the overlap between the student’s current curriculum and SAT-tested skills, then prioritize high-impact topics such as algebra, problem solving, and data analysis. I would balance concept instruction with timed SAT-style practice and review errors for patterns, while ensuring school assignments and upcoming assessments receive appropriate attention.
I keep feedback specific, calm, and growth-oriented. Rather than simply identifying an answer as incorrect, I ask the student to explain their reasoning, pinpoint the exact step where the misconception occurred, and guide them through a corrected approach. I reinforce effort and document recurring areas for focused future practice.
