Sample interview questions
I listen for the speaker’s complete thought, accurately convey meaning rather than translating word for word, and ask for clarification when terminology or audio quality could affect accuracy. I maintain a steady pace and use concise note-taking when appropriate.
I work from a private, secure space, use approved systems and devices, avoid recording or discussing calls, and follow all confidentiality policies and professional codes of conduct. I also ensure that no unauthorized person can hear or view the session.
I respectfully ask the speaker to slow down or repeat information when needed, then interpret each segment accurately and neutrally. I remain calm, preserve the speaker’s intent and tone, and do not add personal explanations unless clarification is necessary for accurate communication.
I test my internet connection, headset, camera, and access to the web platform before availability begins. I also ensure my workspace is quiet, private, well lit, and free from interruptions so I can focus fully on the conversation.
I follow the interpreter’s code of professional conduct by conveying all information faithfully without inserting opinions, advice, or judgment. I use a professional tone, maintain boundaries, and focus on enabling clear communication between all parties.
