Sample interview questions
I use a documented pre-payroll checklist, validate changes against approved source records, reconcile employee and payroll-provider outputs, and investigate exceptions before approval. After payroll closes, I retain audit-ready support and track recurring issues to prevent them in future cycles.
I understand the operational requirements surrounding IMSS, INFONAVIT, FONACOT, SUA/SIPARE, PTU, aguinaldo, vacation premium, and employee affiliation records. I coordinate timely inputs with payroll providers, verify calculations and filings, and escalate discrepancies promptly when specialist guidance is needed.
I would acknowledge the concern promptly, review the relevant employee, time, and payroll records confidentially, and identify whether the issue stems from source data, system configuration, or the payroll provider. I would communicate the resolution timeline clearly, coordinate any correction, and document the outcome.
I would establish a calendar of payroll, benefits, and compliance deadlines with clear owners, required inputs, and escalation points. I would maintain an issue tracker, conduct regular vendor check-ins, and use performance trends to improve service levels and reduce repeat errors.
I start by mapping the current workflow and identifying manual handoffs, unclear ownership, and common error points. I then create simple documentation, introduce controls or automation where appropriate, test the updated process with stakeholders, and measure whether it improves accuracy, timeliness, and employee experience.

Reporting to the Regional HR Manager and partnering closely with Global HR Operations, Finance, Revenue Operations, Legal, and external providers, you will help ensure our People Operations processes are accurate, compliant, scalable, and deliver a great employee experience.

What you get to do every day:
- Own the end-to-end payroll cycle including collecting, validating, and reporting payroll-impacting incidents, preparing pre-payroll inputs for review and approval, reviewing outputs and reconciling employee data, coordinating corrections with our payroll provider, and provide employee payroll and pay slip support.
- Coordinate recurring Mexico payroll and social security requirements, including IMSS, INFONAVIT, FONACOT, SUA/SIPARE, PTU, aguinaldo, vacation premium, and related obligations.
- Administer Mexico HRIS and employee records, including PTO, absences, schedules, time and attendance, and employee changes, and maintain complete, accurate, audit-ready documentation (including IMSS affiliation/AFIL records) to support recurring compliance and audit activities.
- Manage day-to-day benefits administration, including Major Medical Insurance and meal vouchers, from enrollment and employee changes through ongoing vendor administration and new-hire onboarding.
- Serve as the primary operational contact for Mexico HR vendors, including payroll, benefits, and meal voucher providers, tracking deliverables, deadlines, open items, and routine issue resolution.
- Serve as a first-line HR Operations resource for Mexico employees and help document, simplify, and continuously improve People processes as the team grows.
- Contribute to AlertMedia’s culture and values by supporting the Regional HR Manager with the coordination and execution of Mexico employee experience initiatives, including Tuesday Lunch, team events, and other special activities.
What you bring to the role:
- 3+ years of relevant experience in HR Operations, payroll administration, People Operations, or a related HR role in Mexico.
- Hands-on experience supporting Mexican payroll and pre-payroll processes, ideally in partnership with an external payroll provider.
- Working knowledge of Mexican payroll and social security requirements, including IMSS, INFONAVIT, FONACOT, SUA/SIPARE, PTU, aguinaldo, vacation premium, and related statutory obligations.
- Experience administering HRIS, payroll, time and attendance, and/or benefits systems; Rippling experience is a plus.
- Experience coordinating employee benefits and relationships with payroll, benefits, or other HR vendors is strongly preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, exceptional attention to detail, and a high degree of organization and follow-through, with the ability to manage recurring deadlines, identify discrepancies across systems and data, and effectively leverage AI tools to improve accuracy, efficiency, and processes.
- A service-oriented approach to employee support and the discretion to handle confidential employee and payroll information appropriately.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in both Spanish and English, with the ability to collaborate effectively with teams and stakeholders across Mexico and the United States.
- Accounting experience is a plus.
