Sample interview questions
I have built reusable Gutenberg blocks using both ACF and React. I use ACF blocks when editors need straightforward structured fields and rapid implementation, while I prefer React-based blocks for richer interactions, more complex state, or tighter integration with the block editor experience.
I first review the design system, breakpoints, component patterns, and content variations. I then build semantic HTML and reusable SASS components, validate keyboard navigation and screen-reader behavior, optimize media and layout performance, and compare the finished implementation against the mockup across target devices.
I would begin by reproducing the issue, reviewing browser and server logs, isolating recent theme, plugin, or module changes, and checking caching and environment differences. After identifying the root cause, I would implement a minimal, maintainable fix, test it in staging, and document the change for the team.
I use PHP to extend theme behavior, create templates, register WordPress hooks and custom functionality, work with CMS data, and debug integration issues. My goal is to keep backend logic clean and focused so that frontend components receive predictable, well-structured data.
I would clarify the desired user outcome, identify open technical or design decisions, and provide concise options with their trade-offs. I use annotated mockups, implementation previews, and written acceptance criteria to create alignment early, then communicate progress and risks consistently throughout delivery.
About this role.
Brafton is one of the world’s leading content marketing firms, with offices in Boston, London, Toronto and Sydney. We aspire to continually raise the bar on what people consider “marketing content.” We create result-focused strategies and content to drive SEO, social engagement and leads for our clients. Our teams continuously build expertise across new media formats, including video, blogs, infographics and web design.
We’re looking for a Full Stack Developer who loves building clean, performant interfaces and knows their way around a CMS well enough to make the backend work for the frontend, not against it. You’ll spend most of your time in HTML, CSS/SASS, and JavaScript — building custom Gutenberg blocks, theming, and pixel-perfect implementations from design mockups — while staying comfortable enough in PHP and WordPress/Drupal internals to troubleshoot, extend, and integrate when needed.
You’ll work directly with our design and consulting teams to turn mockups into fast, accessible, well-crafted websites for clients across a range of industries.
What You’ll Do
Build custom WordPress themes, Gutenberg blocks (ACF or React-based), and plugins from provided designs
Translate mockups into responsive, accessible frontend code using HTML, CSS/SASS, and modern JavaScript
Work within Drupal for client sites that require it — theming, content types, and module-level troubleshooting
Diagnose and fix frontend and backend issues across a variety of CMS platforms
Collaborate directly with designers, consultants, and occasionally clients to solve problems and refine implementations
Use AI tools like Claude Code to plan out and execute aspects of a large project.
What You Bring
Must-haves
5+ years of professional frontend development — strong HTML, CSS/SASS, and JavaScript fundamentals
3+ years building and customizing WordPress sites, including Gutenberg block development (ACF or React-based blocks)
Solid working knowledge of PHP (7.x/8.x) — enough to read, debug, and extend WordPress/Drupal codebases confidently
Practical Drupal experience — theming, content architecture, or module-level work
Familiarity with WordPress hooks/filters and general LAMP-stack conventions (MySQL, Git)
Strong communication skills and comfort collaborating in a remote, client-facing environment
Familiarity with AI tools such as Claude Code.
Nice-to-haves
Experience with React or Angular
Laravel or Symfony
Docker and Linux environment familiarity
AWS or other cloud platform exposure
