Sample interview questions
How would you approach improving trial-user activation for a SaaS product?

I would first define activation using behavioral and retention data, then identify friction points through funnel analysis, session insights, and customer feedback. I would partner with Product and Design to form hypotheses, deliver targeted experiments, measure leading and downstream outcomes, and roll out successful changes safely.

Describe an experiment you would build using React and TypeScript to improve onboarding.

I would create a typed, feature-flagged onboarding checklist that adapts to a user’s role, fleet size, and completed setup actions. The implementation would include event instrumentation, accessible UI states, API-backed progress persistence, and an A/B test comparing personalized guidance with a standard checklist.

How do you balance rapid experimentation with code quality and maintainability?

I keep experiments small, measurable, and isolated behind feature flags while maintaining production standards for typing, tests, reviews, observability, and rollback paths. If an experiment succeeds, I schedule consolidation work so temporary logic becomes a maintainable product capability.

What is your experience working with relational databases for product features?

I design schemas and queries around clear domain relationships, data integrity, and expected access patterns. For engagement features, I would use PostgreSQL carefully with indexes, migrations, transactional updates where needed, and monitoring for query performance as usage grows.

How do you communicate technical trade-offs to product and design partners?

I explain options in terms of customer impact, delivery time, risk, measurement quality, and long-term maintenance rather than implementation detail alone. I document the recommendation, clarify assumptions, invite feedback early, and ensure the team agrees on the success metric before development begins.
