The role, at a glance.
ElevenLabs is seeking a Developer Experience Engineer to improve the end-to-end experience of developers building with its AI audio platform. The role owns hands-on work across open-source SDKs, an MCP server, API design, and developer tooling. It also involves acting as an early user of new products, triaging technical issues, and creating detailed technical content. Success requires strong full-stack engineering ability, practical API design judgment, open-source experience, and clear communication with the developer community.

Sample interview questions
I would combine qualitative feedback, support and issue data, onboarding observations, and usage telemetry to identify high-friction workflows. I would prioritize improvements to authentication, error messages, documentation, examples, and common integration paths, then validate changes with real developers and measurable adoption or completion metrics.
I would begin with a consistent API contract and clear versioning strategy, while respecting each language's conventions. I would automate generation or shared validation where appropriate, maintain comprehensive integration tests, publish migration guidance, and use release processes that minimize breaking changes.
It means using new products in realistic development workflows before external customers do. I would build representative integrations, identify confusing interfaces and failure modes, document gaps, and partner with product and engineering teams to resolve issues before release.
I focus on a small, useful first release with clear scope, automated tests for critical behavior, and practical documentation. I then collect feedback early, iterate rapidly, and reserve deeper architectural investment for validated needs while maintaining backward compatibility expectations.
I would first acknowledge the report and gather a reproducible example, environment details, SDK version, and expected versus actual behavior. I would isolate whether the cause is the SDK, API, documentation, or user implementation, communicate progress transparently, and provide either a fix, workaround, or precise next steps.
