Sample interview questions
How have you approached a confidential search for a law firm partner or General Counsel?

I begin by aligning with the client on business objectives, confidentiality requirements, target profile, and decision process. I then build a focused market map, discreetly engage qualified prospects, assess motivation and portability where relevant, and provide regular calibrated updates without compromising candidate privacy.

What factors do you evaluate when recruiting a lateral law firm partner?

I assess practice fit, client relationships, portable business, conflicts, leadership style, geographic needs, compensation expectations, and cultural alignment. I also ensure the candidate understands the firm's platform and that the client has a realistic integration plan.

How do you keep executive-search clients informed when the market is challenging?

I set expectations early and provide concise, evidence-based updates on outreach activity, market feedback, candidate availability, and emerging risks. When needed, I recommend adjustments to the profile, compensation approach, or search strategy so the client can make timely decisions.

Describe your approach to building long-term relationships with legal candidates.

I focus on confidential, candid conversations about career goals, practice development, and timing rather than treating every interaction as an immediate placement. By offering relevant market insight and following through consistently, I build trust that supports future searches and referrals.

How do you manage several project-based searches independently?

I establish search plans with clear milestones, maintain disciplined CRM records, prioritize work by client urgency and search stage, and communicate risks early. This structure lets me move multiple searches forward while preserving a responsive experience for both clients and candidates.
