Sample interview questions
How would you design a CI/CD pipeline for a service deployed to Kubernetes?

I would build stages for source validation, unit and integration tests, security and dependency scanning, artifact creation, container image scanning, and versioned image publication. Deployment would use declarative manifests or Helm, promote immutable artifacts across environments, include approval controls where needed, and validate releases with health checks, metrics, and automated rollback criteria.

Describe how you have used Infrastructure as Code to improve infrastructure reliability.

I use version-controlled, modular IaC to create repeatable environments and reduce manual configuration drift. I establish peer review, automated validation and plan checks, remote state controls, reusable modules, and controlled promotion from lower environments to production.

What signals would you monitor to maintain reliability for a cloud-based platform?

I would monitor user-facing availability and latency, error rates, saturation, infrastructure capacity, application logs, database health, queue depth, and deployment outcomes. Alerts should be tied to actionable service-level objectives, with dashboards and runbooks that help responders identify the affected dependency quickly.

How would you investigate a deployment that succeeds in CI but fails in production?

I would compare environment configuration, secrets, permissions, network policies, image versions, runtime dependencies, and resource limits. I would inspect deployment events, application logs, health checks, and recent infrastructure changes, then reproduce the issue safely where possible and implement a tested corrective change with rollback protection.

How do you balance platform standardization with the needs of individual engineering teams?

I provide secure, well-documented paved-road tooling that makes the preferred path easy, such as reusable pipeline templates, IaC modules, and observability defaults. I gather feedback from teams, allow justified exceptions through clear governance, and use adoption and reliability metrics to evolve standards rather than imposing rigid processes.
