Sample interview questions
How would you evolve a shared component library while minimizing disruption for product teams?

I would begin with an adoption and dependency audit, establish clear ownership and contribution standards, and define a versioned migration plan. I would prioritize high-value primitives, provide documentation and codemods where appropriate, and measure adoption, accessibility, and regression outcomes throughout the rollout.

Describe how you balance people management with technical leadership in an engineering management role.

I set explicit expectations for both areas: regular coaching, career development, hiring, and delivery health on the people side, alongside architecture reviews and technical strategy on the platform side. I delegate implementation ownership to senior engineers while remaining accountable for decision quality, risk management, and cross-team alignment.

What metrics would you use to assess the health of a frontend platform team?

I would combine delivery and reliability measures, such as lead time, defect and rollback rates, performance indicators, and accessibility compliance, with platform measures such as component-library adoption and developer satisfaction. I would also review qualitative feedback from product and design partners to ensure the platform is enabling rather than slowing feature teams.

How would you handle disagreement between product, design, and engineering about a frontend roadmap priority?

I would clarify the customer outcome, business impact, technical risk, and cost of delay for each option. Then I would facilitate a decision using transparent trade-offs, identify a reversible experiment or phased delivery path when possible, and document the rationale so all teams understand the commitment.

How have you improved frontend quality and performance across multiple teams?

I would establish shared standards through reusable components, automated testing, performance budgets, accessibility checks, and lightweight architecture reviews. The approach should pair guardrails in CI and tooling with coaching and clear ownership, so quality improves consistently without relying on manual enforcement alone.
